My DH is rubbish at gift buying (for everyone, not just me!) It’s not the money, he just is a terrible shopper.
Let me live vicariously by reading how creative with gifts your partners are - what’s the best gift they’ve ever give you?

Festival tickets
Weekend in Paris

Cabinfever10 · 17/08/2020 16:44

This will probably sound daft but dh got me a Mr Frosty 🤩🥳
It was the 1 and only present that I'd asked for Xmas when I was 10 it was all I talked about for months and instead my parents got me a Mr Bake😫
I will always love my Mr Frosty and use it every summer

AiryFairy1 · 17/08/2020 16:47

The best have been: a beautiful tea set, a funky mirror, tickets to Hamilton - over the course of the 16 years we’ve been together, not all for 1 birthday Grin

pandazoo · 17/08/2020 16:50

A good few years ago he took me on a surprise trip to Edinburgh for a weekend for my birthday so we could visit the zoo and see the pandas (something I've always wanted to do).

My most recent birthday he got me all the little things I like, prosecco, M&S chocolates, books, favourite candle and a completely unexpected one at the bottom of the pile of them was a camera I've been lusting after for a while which we agreed to save on together to use on family trips hoping we could get it around Christmas, he secretly saved and bought it for me earlier instead. I might've cried.

He's not always great around stuff like Mother's Day and sometimes runs out of time and panic buys (v busy job) but always comes through on my birthday.

I hear you! Wanted one every year as a child. Would still adore a Mr Frosty now! What an excellent DH you have :-)

A surprise hot air ballon ride for my birthday while we were on honeymoon- big one off treat for us both and I feel very lucky.
Beautiful cotton flowers for our second anniversary.

How2Help · 17/08/2020 17:08

Got the digital photos I had taken of somewhere special to me (a certain view) and got them printed in large format and framed. Not hugely expensive but so thoughtful.

How2Help · 17/08/2020 17:13

I should add - I am like your DH and am rubbish at ideas for presents. I wish I was better but I just can’t think of brilliant things however much I try. I know sometimes it is just people being thoughtless and they don’t put effort in, but if he’s like me he might really wish he could do perfect presents.

ILoveFood87 · 17/08/2020 17:22

Mine got me a reptile that sits in the corner in its large house taking up room. I will not rehome her but she's so boring and I have to clean her.

HaudMaDug · 17/08/2020 17:31

Stuffed Crow (Stan) which was genius xmas gift from the 1 guy who listened.
Stan still pride of place on the bookshelf, BF long gone but not missed.

iklboo · 17/08/2020 17:44

Gin making experience

A doll's china tea set. I'd had one when I was little and took really good care of it. My cousin put in on the back of his bike, did a wheelie and it got smashed to bits. I was heartbroken. DH found an almost identical one on eBay and got it me one Christmas.

LakieLady · 17/08/2020 17:47

The lakeland terrier puppy I got for my 50th birthday.

She's 15 now, and still adorable.

Auckland11 · 17/08/2020 19:02

Best give was a kitchen aid i got from my family last year!

AllWeHaveIsNow · 17/08/2020 19:09

For my thirtieth, he did a double surprise party thing. We went to London for an evening and stay over in a lovely hotel, thought he might be just taking me to a show or something, as we live quite near London, so it didn't seem like London itself was the surprise iyswim. Went out for dinner and realised I recognised everyone in the restaurant! He'd arranged the whole thing and my sister came, my best friends.

The next morning, we went to the train station and went to York. Were leaving the station and my other best friend and her husband showed up.

I was pregnant on my next birthday, so it was really good to have a last hurrah type thing.

He also once bought me a beautiful bracelet for Valentine's Day. I had been heavily hinting that I wanted it for birthday and christmas, but he didn't take the bait! I loved it and then I lost it in an airport a few years later and was gutted. So, the next anniversary, he bought me the same bracelet, took me to the same city where we were living when he gave it to me in the first place, (different country), and gave it to me there.

He's alright, my DH Smile.

A photo album of all the photos he took during lockdown as I was a misery guts and he wanted me to remember the good bits

Rebelwithallthecause · 17/08/2020 19:10

I was a misery as I was due a baby early May and scared shitless whilst also dealing with a very ill toddler in and out of GOSH

Invisimamma · 17/08/2020 19:16

Nespresso machine, because I use it everyday and would have never bought myself one.

Tiffany jewelery because I love it and again would never have bought it myself.

My mum got me a huge tesco online delivery for my 21st to my student flat, it was basically just lots of wine, beers, and Crisps and cake and other treats. As I poor student it was amazing and my flat mates adored me for it.

Carpathian2 · 17/08/2020 19:19

My dd when she was training to be a beautician and was really broke ( she was about 19). She bought me a copy of Vogue, a bar of chocolate and a cheap scented candle, it couldn't have come to more than £5 and she wrapped it beautifully.

I was so touched that she got me this present and put a lot of thought into it. She has since bought me expensive presents now she's very successful in her business, which I'm grateful for, but nothing is the same as the love she put into that present.

That is really sweet
ShinyMe · 17/08/2020 19:23

My mum once gave me 24 frozen dinners that she'd made for me. I'd been tired and busy and missing her cooking. I had a freezer full of her lamb casserole and beef stew and chicken something or other, it was great.

Cancangirlie · 17/08/2020 19:37

A trip to Iceland to see the Northern lights.

Skigal86 · 17/08/2020 19:52

When I was in my early 20s my dad bought me a car for christmas. (He always bought me something that was just from him rather than him and mum but it was usually something like a cardi or a DVD), I couldn’t drive at the time and it was a genuinely life changing present.

From DH I have some beautiful jewellery, some expensive and some cheap pieces that he picked on his travels, all of which I adore.

All of my Xmas/birthday/Mother’s Day presents got cancelled due to Covid so I’m hoping for something really good for Xmas! Grin

NerrSnerr · 17/08/2020 19:55

Tickets to see Radiohead in Glasgow after they hadn't played gigs for years. Was on my birthday and he just told me to book the days off work and didn't tell me until the morning.

PatchworkElmer · 17/08/2020 20:38
