10 weeks pregnant and have a subchronic bleed - has anyone else experienced this?

Hi

I woke up this morning having has a massive bleed during the night. I went to my local EPU who said I have a subchronic bleed measuring 21 x 7 x 9 mm. Not sure if that is big or not?

They didn't seem too concerned but I'm still bleeding and worrying. Has anyone else has the same around 10 weeks and how big was it and how long did you bleed for?

I had this during my pregnancy, it started at 11 weeks and didn't stop until 23 weeks. I had a twin IVF pregnancy, and was told it was fairly common with IVF twins (something to do with progesterone). I passed clots the size of my hand, it was awful. My twins are now happy, healthy 9 year olds. I was put on bed rest as much as possible as there is very little they can do medically. I hope it all goes well for you x

Mascaramademehappy · 17/08/2020 13:43

Yes, I had one. She is now 11 and watching some annoying YouTuber right now.

KCSunhine · 17/08/2020 14:11

Hope257, that sounds awful! Lovely to hear that you now have happy, healthy 9 old year olds x

I did with my first and it was awful. It was around 8 weeks. Had a bleed that left me dizzy. They picked up the subchorionic haematoma and confirmed the baby was okay. I did rest and avoid any heavy lifting but he’s a big strong 6 year old now. It’s horrible because there’s not much you can do. I read profusely as if that would help but all I could find is to stay hydrated and to take it easy.

expectingnumber3 · 17/08/2020 14:18

I had them in all 4 of my pregnancies. I am listening to the 4 of them scream at each other right now over what to watch on Netflix. Fingers crossed all is well for you too, it is very scary and stressful Flowers

gwenneh · 17/08/2020 14:20

I had them in all three of mine. I bled off and on through the first trimester with all of them.

Nerve-wracking, but all three DC were fine.

KCSunhine · 17/08/2020 14:23

Thank you all, really reassuring to hear that you've all gone on to have healthy children. I hope I'll also have the same outcome xx

I’m 31 weeks pregnant and had one a few cm bigger than your measurements, I bled pretty much continuously from 5-16ish weeks, with 5 or 6 massive floods on top. It was absolutely terrifying at the time but baby was fine throughout!

Lozz22 · 17/08/2020 14:31

I had one at 9 weeks. Unfortunately ours wasn't a happy outcome

thatsforsure · 17/08/2020 14:56

Massive bleed with DS 1 - huge clots (sorry if TMI) and then had to go to A and E with a bath towell between my legs - absolutely soaked with blood when I got there

I could not believe when they said he was still in there

He is now a huge 6ft plus rugby player and i cant believe he was ever in there !

I hope everthing is ok for you x

Cutesbabasmummy · 17/08/2020 15:20

Yes from 6 weeks. Also an ivf pregnancy. I bled all the way to 17 weeks. Baby is now 5 years old and my mum.is just about to take him.fir his swimming lesson.

Mascaramademehappy · 17/08/2020 18:19

I had a major one at 6wks and then bled continually through the entire pregnancy. I was told not to expect a live birth which was an awful thing to tell me but she is here and well and I have since found out that these are far more common than I thought at first. I really hope things work out for you.

marmitemom · 17/08/2020 18:21

I had one from 10 weeks up until 20 weeks when, unfortunately, we lost our daughter. Please rest as much as possible.

ArfArfBarf · 17/08/2020 18:25

With dc2 i had one at about 10 weeks and it cleared up in about a month.
With dc3 I bled on and off from 10 weeks until he was born at 34 weeks. Was very heavy at times.

MissSmiley · 17/08/2020 18:47

I had a big bleed with my twins (ivf) after I picked up my DD aged 14 months, I was 14 weeks and stopped over a couple days, it terrified me, the twins are 13 now

LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE · 17/08/2020 20:43

Yep. At 16 weeks on a night shift. Bawled my eyes out. Baby is now 9 months!

lolalolalol · 17/08/2020 20:50

I had one with DC3, luckily I didn't bleed that much but they were lovely and said I could get checked each time I did have a bleed. I can't remember the size of mine but I think they said as the baby becomes bigger than the SCH the safer things become.
I did take it upon myself to avoid heavy lifting etc.

Facelikearustytractor · 17/08/2020 20:56

Had one at 6,8 and 11 weeks and he's now a stroppy 5 year old. It was heavy each time and very scary.

Chocdoodles100 · 17/08/2020 22:50

I had a small one around 7/8 weeks and they told me it was nothing and not to worry.

Anyway baby born oxygen deprived and almost died with undetected, suspected problem with placenta.

Might not be related but my gut instinct tells me it was! Try not to worry but I’d urge you to go for a couple of scans in your last trimester even if u have to pay. That’s when a lot of problems can occur and the NHS don’t routinely scan you then. I always wish I had because I could have avoided what happened...but as I say my dc is fine now, healthy and doing really well and it might not have been related.

Siameasy · 17/08/2020 23:04

Bled very heavily at 14w like a flood. Clots too. Was convinced that it was a MC. Lasted a few weeks on and off. Then stopped and that was that. DD was fine and is now nearly 6

Lemons1571 · 17/08/2020 23:06

I had one at 11 weeks, quite dark blood if I remember rightly. He’s now 9.

LeftMyOtherUsernameAtHome · 17/08/2020 23:09

Yup, had two big bleeds at 8 and 13 weeks (heavier than a heavy period) and light bleeding on and off from 6-22 weeks. I've previously had a miscarriage so thought it was history repeating itself. But all was fine and DD is now a healthy toddler ❤️

Ajahd · 17/08/2020 23:31

Bled for 6 weeks straight from 8 weeks. Passed a clot the size of my hand at one point, I thought I'd passed my baby at this point until the nurse fished it out of the toilet for me and told me it was just a blood clot! Was in hospital on multiple occasions, lost so much blood they started thinking about a blood transfusion at one point. Whenever the nurses saw how much blood there was I was told it was an alarming amount of blood, that I was going through a 'threatened miscarriage' and that it could likely go either way. Currently awake at 35 weeks pregnant because that same baby is kicking away and not letting me get any sleep. I know it's a scary time, but try to take this opportunity to relax. Nurses told me that bed rest wouldn't make a difference, but as my job required a lot of walking (dog walker) I decided to take a week off after my last big bleed and it slowly started getting better. Might not be related but worth considering

KCSunhine · 18/08/2020 22:07

Thank you ladies for sharing your experiences. It really does help talking to others who have been through it as well. I passed 2 large blood clots today and the bleeding is starting to increase again. The EPU have said they are not concerned but it’s hard not to worry!
