From future uni students and their parents

Not because they care or will admit they fecked up

Just because they will lose votes

I predict the about turn will happen in a couple of days and Johnson will promote himself as a hero.

And of course I mean Westminster, in Scotland we admitted the mistake and apologised.

You’re probably right.
It won’t just be this year’s cohorts, it will be anyone who can see themselves or their kids in that situation.
If the Tories look like they don’t care about bright, hardworking kids in state schools, ie aspirational people whose families are traditional Conservative voters (a lot of Asian families typically both vote Tory and take education seriously) they will be losing previously loyal voters. This isn’t like one of these things where a political party can let something go because the people affected would never have voted for them anyway.

Obviously I am not implying all families of bright hardworking state school kids vote Tory, but you can’t sell yourself as the party of aspiration and punish the aspirational.

I agree. I'm just surprised it's taking them so long to figure this out. Actually, no I'm not surprised. Johnson will let them fumble along then hell suddenly come out with the fact he's sorted it all and he's just brilliant.

And that had nothing to do with votes of course..
But YANBU, they probably will back down. I think they'll do the GCSE results, wait for the shit to hit the fan with those, make Gavin take the fall and quit, then reverse it.

They may change to what is on the CAG but that is not the same as the UCAS predicted grades. Teachers are typically optimistic about those in an attempt to get students to work harder but that does not always work.

x2boys · 17/08/2020 11:04

Scotland only admitted their mistake after protests etc prior to that Nicola sturgeon backed the exam boards .

x2boys · 17/08/2020 11:15

Also it took calls for John Swinney to resign etc before they admitted their mistake,so Scotland didn't exactly cover themselves in glory either and was probably also a vote thing.

Good they've changed it.

I hope every single young person registers to vote and come election time, makes sure the tories don’t see power again for a generation
