To be sulking?

Today is my birthday.

I’ve no money because I work full time for minimum wage that only just covers my bills.

I have children so anything left goes on them.

I have no other family that care. My parents don’t bother with me, they are just not interested.

I hate birthdays and christmases because they just make me feel so alone.

Going to stay in bed for as long as I can to make the day feel shorter.

Feel utterly depressed and sad.

Happy Birthday OP....it's horrid to feel so alone. Can you do something cheap at home with the kids - make a Birthday cake that you can all share while you watch a film later maybe? My parents never cared much about me either, and when you've got your own kids, who you love and cherish, it's even harder to understand how your own parents could be that way.

So sorry you’re feeling like this. It sounds really tough. Have you any friends you could call? Even just a chat on the phone if you cannot see them. Please look after yourself and these are for you

Thanks. I’ve only got the food we have in which is mainly freezer food and chop oats stuff so no baking can be done.

If it’s not raining we can go for a little walk later maybe. See where we end up.

Listen life is what you make it. You want to sit in bed and sulk - then do it! It what a waste of a perfectly good day.

How about you go to the shop buy yourself a nice lunch (I’m not talking extravagance here). Run yourself a bath, light a candle and watch your favourite tv show.

Don't worry this is just temporary once your kids are a bit older they will be the ones who will want to organise something like making you a card or getting a jam doughnut with a candle in it and who want to celebrate with you.

Are they old enough for you all to sing happy birthday to you?

Also once they are up a bit you will have a bit more freedom so you will hopefully be able to meet some friends or have time to see existing ones or a partner if you want one obviously who will want to come with a bottle of wine or a Tesco cake on your birthday.

I had years, as young lone parent, when I had no cards or indeed any acknowledgement of the day from anyone. This time will pass.

Happy birthday. Can you bake cupcakes together with your DC or something to mark the occasion?

When I was going thro a divorce and trying to sort out the ensuing financial fallout (ex had left a horrific financial mess). I didn't bother with (my) birthday. My best friend would always text me at bang on midnight to wish me a happy birthday however, which always made me smile.

And my DC who were really young would make cards for me and one year, they spent ages making things and whispering together,I didn't pay attnetion, then on my birthday they produced a treasure map and I had a treasure hunt around the house finding presents, their treasured bits of toy jewellery, they'd made me a trinket box in DT at school, sweets they'd saved, and a card they'd made.

Was the best birthday I ever had. Nothing will ever top it. DC were so proud of themselves and hoping I would love it. It was so bittersweet as we had so little at the time but they so desperately wanted to make my day happy.

We had a fun tea that day, picnicking in the living room and watching DVD's.
