Sitting at the dinner table and DD says, "mum, why do we never get push ice cream? Like Vienetta?"

Keeping2ChevronsApart · 16/08/2020 22:09

You haven't gone wrong, it's nasty stuff and tastes artificial, she'll understand when she's older

PomBearWithoutHerOFRS · 16/08/2020 22:09

Iceland are doing mini Viennetta on sticks.... Grin

Fredfrench62 · 16/08/2020 22:11

You should buy one and act like it's the most delicious and decadent thing you've ever eaten. And watch her baffled and bemused face as she is eating the same thing.

Tunnocks34 · 16/08/2020 22:12

@PomBearWithoutHerOFRS probably the most exciting news I’ve heard today. Tomorrow - I’m going to Iceland!

PawPawNoodle · 16/08/2020 22:12

Send her round, I've got one in the freezer. I quite enjoy the fanfare of having to chop it up.

Thelnebriati · 16/08/2020 22:14

Fredfrench62 😂
Eat a Magnum with a sad face while she has the Vienetta.

Lemonylemony · 16/08/2020 22:15

MINI VIENETTA ON A STICK!!!

Oh my word. We’re living in the future.

hastingsmua1 · 16/08/2020 22:16

To be fair, if she’s never tried it she won’t know how naff it is. She’s just going off the fancy marketing

I remember having it as a kid but never again. I just have no desire/inclination so I’m guessing it’s not great.

Tombero · 16/08/2020 22:19

Ooh we got this on birthdays when I was young. Happy innocent days when the loo was the toilet, the sitting room was the lounge and supper was tea. You’re making me nostalgic Smile

BluebellForest836 · 16/08/2020 22:23

I bought this for my daughter recently as it was in a co op frozen meal deal... she loved it. I however think it’s shit and will stick with my hagan daz salted caramel

1Morewineplease · 16/08/2020 22:28

Isn’t Vienetta that strange , non-dairy substance that doesn’t melt? I feel sure that , if you leave it out all day that it will still have substance.
Dare I say the hated MN phrase...’back in my day’ ... Vienetta was for poor people who wanted to feel posh? Much like Ferrero Roche .
( And yes , I ate buckets of both!)

SockYarn · 16/08/2020 22:43

I haven't had it in years but my memory of it is being very artificial. Was there a mint one or am i misremembering?

OP posts:
HolyPillow · 16/08/2020 22:48

There was a mint one. It tasted like toothpaste.

lanthanum · 16/08/2020 22:52

Polpot, I hope you make sure to cut one too many pieces so that everyone can fight over the last one like in the adverts.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 16/08/2020 22:55

Mint belongs in mojito not vienetta🤮

Ooooh. Now i want some!

Coffeeisnecessary · 16/08/2020 22:56

My children love vienetta too! So do I, brings back childhood memories. Might have to buy a Sarah Lee gateaux at some point too...

BaconsLaw · 16/08/2020 23:01

What was the one that had the biscuit at the bottom.

That one was the best!

Lazt · 16/08/2020 23:40

Someone I know once saw a person walking down the street tucking into a whole vienetta like it was a sandwich or something I love this image!

PawPawNoodle · 16/08/2020 23:47

@lanthanum

Polpot, I hope you make sure to cut one too many pieces so that everyone can fight over the last one like in the adverts.
Mate they're tiny now, they suggest 7 servings but i do one cut down the middle and that's for me and future-me.
lightlypoached · 17/08/2020 08:01

Hate vienetta, but does anyone remember in the 1970s a 'posh' ice cream thing that was like mint ice cream in dark chocolate, in the form of individual 'chocolates'? Sort of like mint creams but made with ice cream. Always had a huge amount of packaging and very little in the way of actual food Grin

Or am I imagining it ?

WhiteVixen · 17/08/2020 08:10

Walls Romantica was posher than Vienetta...

Where have I gone wrong?
SockYarn · 17/08/2020 08:25

DD has totally been seduced by the marketing. She's 15 - and not daft - she knows that "posh" food generally means organic, known source, handmade, artisan.

Not churned out by volume by P&G in a factory. In my childhood the height of sophistication was Neapolitan ice cream in a cardboard wrapper.

OP posts:
ChangeThePassword · 17/08/2020 08:34

I would much rather have a vienetta than a magnum tbh. Magnums are overhyped, overpriced and very mediocre.

But then I'd much rather have salted caramel haagen dazs than a vienetta. Also overhyped and overpriced, but far from mediocre. But give me the tubs, not the lollys.

Buy the poor girl one. They are usually only a quid.

MrsBobDylan · 17/08/2020 08:40

We still like to indulge in the occasional Vienetta (we are a bit posh tho, don't try it if your not).

I am completely obsessed with Carte Dor coffee ice cream. It is ready to scoop straight out of the freezer, has these sugary little coffee bean things throughout and is more addictive than crack. Right up my straza.

SerenDippitty · 17/08/2020 08:54

Carte D’Or mint choc is lush.
