Sorry a really boring one but wanted to get some ideas

I am in desperate need for new pillows, we currently have a mismatch of cheap pillows an expensive but too soft one and a mid price dunelm one

The biggest issue I have is finding some which can fit inside pillow protectors and then pillow case (I dribble sorry tmi) and lots of the nice ones are too thick to fit in both Sad

Honestly though, how long does a cheap pillow last? If you're replacing them every couple of years then you're not actually saving any money compared to investing in a more expensive one that's going to last, although I appreciate of course that not everyone has the cash available to spend that much at once.

HariboLectar · 17/08/2020 11:14

I got an orthopaedic one from Bedeck - I love it, and actually take it with me if I stay anywhere in the UK Grin

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 17/08/2020 11:14

I can’t believe that people are paying up to £150 for a fucking pillow!!! How the other half live eh

Its not about that. You spend a third of your life in bed and the wrong type of mattress or pillow can cause neck and back issues which can cause pain throughout the entire day. Why on earth would you spend money on a decent quality mattress and then buy a cheap naff pillow that gives you neck ache?

I'm sorry but I dont understand the astonishment at investing in something that helps your health and reduces pain. To me, thats priceless and is worth every bloody penny. I'd rather go without some other luxury and have a refreshing night's sleep and not wake up with neck ache thanks.

MiddleClassProblem · 17/08/2020 11:16

Am I the only one who doesn’t like pillow protectors? Although I do two extra pillow cases.

Spam88 · 17/08/2020 11:17

Totally agree alexis. I had a bit of a realisation a few years back that it was ridiculous to scrimp on things like pillows and glasses when if you added up the money we spend on going out for meals/drinks, clothes we want but don't need etc it would be much much more.

MaskingForIt · 17/08/2020 11:19

I use a plain pillow case, then the outer pillow case. I didn’t really know pillow protectors were a thing.

We got the tempur ones free with our mattress (which we got half price!!) and I love mine but husband doesn’t use his, they’re very much a love/hate thing. We also have a white company one each which I got from the outlet at Bicester.

Exactly- people spend a ton of money on holidays for example which is what?- only 2 weeks out of the year. Yet you spend every night in bed for hours and hours. To me, its a no brainer to spend money on something you will use every single day and that affects your quality of life and health.

raspberryk · 17/08/2020 11:30

Dunlapillow fan here too, I've had mine 6/7 years and it's still lovely, soft yet supportive - it was 80 for a single pillow. I bought another one off eBay for less but it wasn't the same, not sure if it was fake or just not the same kind as the one I had and it's very hard.
I've had success with Ikea pillows as well but I can't recall which ones.

So pillows that cost less than £150 are cheap and naff??

Why spend £150 on a Siberian goose down pillow when you can spend £75 (same brand) on a Hungarian goose down pillow? Don't tell me you can tell the difference between Siberian and Hungarian goose down.

Cookies2523 · 17/08/2020 11:31

My husband & I both have the Tempur pillows. I have the 'cloud' one - it really is like sleeping on a cloud! I can't remember what my husband's one is called but that pillow is firmer as he has problems with his back/neck. I know they are pricey - £80 in Dreams - but they have been a good investment for us. I also have protectors & the pillow cases on mine.

MiddleClassProblem · 17/08/2020 11:33

Oooh a cloud sounds nice. Is it hard at all or just soft and fluffy?

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 17/08/2020 11:36

Well firstly, it wasnt £150, it was around £70 if I recall correctly.

Secondly, even if it did cost £150 so fcking what? People spend money on all sorts of crap that I think is a waste. I dont get on my high horse about it and start judging them. Its their money, their choice.

Cookies2523 · 17/08/2020 11:37

It really is soft and fluffy but it gives me the support i need.

MiddleClassProblem · 17/08/2020 11:37

Hmmmm... this might be a winner for me

MiddleClassProblem · 17/08/2020 11:37

Thank you @Cookies2523

Cookies2523 · 17/08/2020 11:42

You're welcome, MiddleClassProblem. Good luck if you buy one - you get a 30 day trial if you buy from Tempur direct.

MaskingForIt · 17/08/2020 13:21

@AntsInPenzance So pillows that cost less than £150 are cheap and naff??

No-one has said that. Everyone is advocating buying the pillow that suits you, and that you can afford. For some that will be £150. For other it will be £10. We’re free to manage our own budgets and priorities accordingly.

wink1970 · 17/08/2020 13:26

we also have the Tempur ones, which we got free with our new mattress. I would have paid full price for them though, they are great - keep my head cool and keep their shape.

M&S do nice ones, I have these <a class="break-all" href="//pillowswww.marksandspencer.com/feels-like-down-medium-pillow/p/hbp60138531?color=WHITE" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">M&S pillow in our spare bedrooms and DH has 1 as his second pillow.

Bought some Baavet wool pillows recently, and am waiting for some super king size pillowcases to arrive to put them in.

I have high expectations as my wool duvet is glorious.

amusedbush · 17/08/2020 15:51

I’ve got a John Lewis extra firm pillow which cleared up the shoulder pain I’d had within two nights. It’s starting to get a bit lumpy now (it’s about three years old) but it wasn’t expensive so I’ll just replace it like for like at some point.

MiddleClassProblem · 17/09/2020 14:11

@Cookies2523 just to let you know I finally got around to ordering the tempur cloud pillow and it arrived yesterday. I used it last night (smell not too bad) and it was perfect. Thank you so much!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 17/09/2020 14:38

A very soft and squashy pure goose down one.
Dh prefers something firmer, but I need soft and squashy.

Oly4 · 17/09/2020 14:43

Dunlopillo. They last years and cost the same as all the crap ones I used to buy when you calculate cost per year.
And better for the environment as I’m not chucking so many away
