AIBU to not want DP to go back to the gym

I think it's too much of a risk. He's diabetic, although his blood sugar is under control, we are both overweight and we have a two-year-old. We are both WFH and really only see my parents and my sister's family. He's been talking about it for a while and I've told him I don't want him to go. This morning he told me that he has a badminton match tomorrow evening and asked if it was okay. I told him no I didn't think it was. He's been trying to convince me and now I am beginning to wonder if it is me who is BU.

Do you know what precautions have been put in place?
Is he going as a way to reduce his weight? If so he may be offsetting some risk IYSWIM?

In my opinion yes, you are unreasonable.
Assuming its the risk of covid you're worried about but being overweight also has an impact on how you cope should you catch it and for a multitude of reasons (diabetes included) losing weight could be beneficial.
If he is safe, keeps a distance and cleans his equipment before/after use he should be OK. Badminton is an easy sport to socially distance with too.

I’ve gone back to my gym and it’s been amazing. In fact, I’ll take a socially distanced gym any day. Numbers are limited, there’s plentiful hand sanitizer and very one is wiping down equipment after use. Add to that there’s a cleaner that does a deeper clean in between bootable sessions.

I do think Yab a little bit unreasonable and need to balance the benefits to him of going to his badminton and the risk of catching coronavirus. If you’ve not been doing much outside the home it can seem a bit daunting and maybe scary but it’s OK once you’ve done it a few times.

I am going to my gym. Screens between equipment, spaces marked out on the floor. You can't move for bottles of hand sanitizer, and cleaners following you around. You have a temperature check before you are allowed in.
If the gym had a good cleaning regime before covid it will probably be better now.
If he's playing badminton he will be two metres away from his opponent anyway.

It seems I am being unreasonable. DP has spoken to his badminton partner who has been going for a month now, it sounds like things are very tightly controlled. I've told him to go, as @Deux says, it's all a bit daunting.
