Can I save this amber necklace?

The silver parts of this necklace were tarnished so I soaked it in vinegar and bicarb to clean it up, but now the amber pendant has lost its polish. Anyone know if it can be restored?

Sadly I think you might have ruined the amber by soaking it. You should have removed the pendant and cleaned that separately with a silver cloth.

Yeah, it polished up once and will polish up again

How hard that is though...

Simple solutions seem too be try olive oil. More complex solutions go through light sanding and progressively less abrasive surfaces.

I'd be tempted to give a little bit a go with the softest side on a nail buff

Amber is porous which is why it's gone dull. You could try using toothpaste to restore the shine - only use an already damaged amber - rinse well and dry as thoroughly as you can then air dry before putting it away. You can use a bit of olive oil on a cloth to add extra shine and add a protective film to the stone.

Or get in contact with a jeweller who can sort it for you?

Yes, olive oil and perhaps toothpaste.
