Depends on how much data you have with your mobile provider and how much they charge

I do this often. It just uses up your data.

I don't know what happens when you use it up as I have lots of data and don't ever go over the limit b

It depends how much data you have and how much you're using. I would often use it on the train commuting to work (for an hour or more at a time, a few days a week). I'd not watch videos or listen to music or up/download large files, but normal internet browsing, email, etc. is fine. Even if I run out, it's 5 quid for another GB or two, so I would just top up until the end of the month.

It depends what you would need broadband for - e.g I watch most of my tv using streaming/catchup, all of which uses data, and lots of it. Equally I’m on a phone contract with 50gb data included as standard, so if I was without internet for a few days then using my phone as a hotspot wouldn’t be a bad idea, but might eat up all of my data if used for longer. Weigh up what you use internet for, what you are /are not willing to use phone data for, how much your phone provider charges for going over your data allowance, and how long you plan to use the hotspot for before you get broadband. If it works out affordable for you then there’s no reason not to!

Thanks so far. It would basically be for emailing and sending off stuff. Not for streaming- so it sounds like I may be ok hopefully
