Does anyone else think Mr Bennett from Pride and Prejudice Is lovely?

No. He’s abusive to his wife and three of his daughters, he failed to make any provision for them once he is dead and is lazy.

This. His wife may have poor social skills, but she is at least trying to secure their daughters' futures. He sits in his library judging them for being stupid when he never provided them with any education, knowing that as things stand they face a life of poverty if he were to drop dead..

He is punished for choosing a life partner by looks rather than by character. Lydia and Kitty inherit his genes as well as their mother’s.

He is the example in the book of the lazy, inactive man - to contrast with Mr Gardiner and Darcey.

He's a git. And ye olden times equivalent of the modern OH who spends their spare time playing video games or golf instead of with their family.

And he does that thing of threatening punishments without carrying through that I cannot bear

I side with Mrs Bennet in all of their disputes and think she is the spouse unable to respect their partner in life. Not him.

Marrying off his daughters is a matter of their survival and he mocks his wife for taking her duty seriously as he shirks his.

Can't bear him.

Git.

Yes- his only financial planning is knocking his wife up five times (at least).

And that comment at the end that he delights in visiting L and D with no notice - I always imagine them lying on the floor at Pemberley, waiting for him to go away again.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

I'm pleased thatDarcy pointes out that Mr B was a bit of an embarrassing nob as well, it wasn't just the women.
