Leaving aside Enid Blyton, Marianne Dreams by Catherine Storr.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 15/08/2020 14:35

My first favourite was The Enchanted Wood, which was then taken over by many Enid Blyton books - particularly the school stories.

I had a long standing love affair with The Dark is Rising sequence.

And my favourite book to relax to was Cue for Treason.

As an adult I love the Chalet School and the Wells books.

RhodaDendron · 15/08/2020 14:36

I loved Anne of Green Gables, the Narnia series and Little Women. Couldn’t have chosen!

And I loved it.

Not sure if it counts as a novel but Journey to the River Sea, by Eva Ibbotson. It was about a little girl who went to live with her distant family in the Amazon rainforest. I read it over and over!

I love the Chalet and Wells books to this day, as do my girls.

I also loved reading Georgette Heyer novels, and still do, as well as Agatha Christie.

Yes, depends on age.

I'm not sure I could pick my favourite Enid Blyton book.

But we had an open bookshelf and one day I picked up 'My Family and Other Animals' and I was hooked. I still love that book. I remember feeling so grown-up the first time I read it (I must have been about 7 or 8).

namechangetheworld · 15/08/2020 14:42

As a pre-teen I loved The Exiles series by Hilary McKay and The Mennyms series by Sylvia Waugh. If I found my copies today I'd gladly read them all again!

Carrie’s War - Nina Bawden. Went to love Goodnight Mr Tom as an adult. Goes to show, good children’s literature has a cross generational appeal.
