For me it was probably The Famous 5 series, I love adventure!

I loved The Indian in the cupboard. I still have my copy somewhere and it is absolutely battered having been dropped in the bath a couple of times. There's a photo of me sat on the toilet asleep with it in my hands!

Arrivederla · 15/08/2020 16:36

The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe - loved it.

Just remembered the Punchbowl Farm series by Monica Edwards and a series set on the Long Mynd by Malcolm Saville (?) Not sure if that's the right name but I loved those books.

Undead76 · 15/08/2020 16:36

I adored Lois Duncan as a child, her novel 'Summer of Fear' was one of my all time favourite books and started a life long love of horror and suspense novels.

I also loved the Wishing Chair books by Enid Blyton.

There was a book called 'Shine' by Jill Paton Walsh (also called 'The Green Book') which I always remembered, and it was about the planet earth dying and people being picked to go to another planet to colonise it. I recently re purchased it to read to my own children, as well as 'Summer of Fear', because I enjoyed them so much as a child.

When I was older I enjoyed the Judy Blume books, though they were a bit naughty and I hid them from my Mum!

I also had a large fully illustrated book by Hans Christian Anderson which was lovely (I still have it) which I used to read for hours.

Oh, and the 'Girls at St Claire's' series by Enid Blyton!

justoverthehorizon · 15/08/2020 16:38

@grapeswithseeds I liked little grey men partly because the author "BB" was very mysterious. ....pre Internet. ...and it was a cracking adventure. .gnomes go in search of their lost brother up river.

I loved The 39 Steps! Enjoyed anything by Enid Blyton, particularly The Faraway Tree and The Famous Five. Also loved Heidi and the "What Katy Did" books. I was an avid reader (still am when I get time!) and would read literally anything Grin later on aged around 8 or 9 I would enjoy Harry Potter and Jane Eyre.

The Silver Brumby series and Mallory Towers series.

All Judy Blume
Lots of Enid Blyton

@Arrivederla

The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe - loved it.

Just remembered the Punchbowl Farm series by Monica Edwards and a series set on the Long Mynd by Malcolm Saville (?) Not sure if that's the right name but I loved those books.

That's the Lone Pine series, starting with Mystery at Witchend.
Qwenzo · 15/08/2020 17:03

Carrie’s War
What Katy Did (and Did Next)
All the Famous Five but I disliked secret seven!
Chalet School
Malory Towers
St Clare’s
The Railway Children
Adrian Mole and sequels (I was a young adult at the time of the tv series but had read the books as a teenager
Narnia but especially the one with Diggory - the first one in the series I think.

The80sweregreat · 15/08/2020 17:09

Jill book fans , I loved the one where she impersonated someone called Amanda and they ended up calling her ' 'JillAmanada' !
She had so many adventures with her ponies and her mum wasn't super rich either, which was nice! Made me think I could have a horse one day , but I never did! Great books.

Idontbelieveit12 · 15/08/2020 17:11

I like the Malory Towers and St Clare’s books. As I got older, Judy Blume books and sweet valley high

WokusPocus · 15/08/2020 17:12

@iklboo - I loved Bogwoppit too! My aunt and uncle used to live down the lane from Ursula Moray Williams and myself and my sister were lucky enough to get invited around for tea a couple of times. She was the loveliest woman - she would put out a huge spread for us and set games up in her garden. Happy memories!
