Help! UTI, cant stopping weeing and cant sleep

Shamelessly posting for traffic.

Sudden onset of UTI just before going to bed. I've been sat on the toilet for over 2 hours as I constantly have to pee! What can I do? It's just getting worse and is now painful. I've drank loads of water as I've manage to flush out a uti before but doesnt seem to be working. Had a lot of health issues lately (keyhole surgery) so so very sick of not being well.

Please, please can anyone help me get some sleep before calling to get alme antibiotics in the morning?

Oh, you have my sympathy UTIs are hell.

Have you any ibruprofen?

Gunpowder · 15/08/2020 03:01

There’s a home remedy which is drinking a tsp of bicarbonate of soda dissolved in a pint of water. Also sitting in a warmish bath and doing your wees there. Call 111 if you feel very unwell. Hope you get some sleep.

Strong salty warm water - a bit horrid but it does work, swiftly followed by a twice as much cool, fresh water.

HateIsNotGood · 15/08/2020 04:00

Forgot the word Drink. 1/3rd of a pint strong, salty warm water - wait 10 mins then 2/3 pint cool, unsalted water. Do it again in an hour if still awake.

8elate8 · 15/08/2020 04:04

Thank you all, still awake. Have tried the bicarbonate soda and water. Dont think it's working yet, currently progressed to blood in urine.

Poor you, they are awful. Hot water bottle on back/tum really helps with pain, and painkillers. Short term I'd see about some antibiotics as it's sounding pretty nasty, not one to advocate using them unless absolutely necessary but UTIs can rapidly end up in the kidneys, especially if you're run down and getting over previous health issues.

If still bad tomorrow Do you have a pharmacy offering the antibiotic scheme locally that you could go to ASAP tomorrow - in Scotland where I am, you can get them without prescription from chemists.

If not then is there out of hours medical coverage you can contact?

oceanbreezy · 15/08/2020 04:32

Call 111, they can refer you to the out of hours gp. They can send a prescription for you to collect at a pharmacy when they open.

User7312019 · 15/08/2020 05:35

Also in the meantime before you can get antibiotics, just sit in the bath

linerforlife · 15/08/2020 05:44

Oh god you poor thing there's nothing worse. There's not much you can do until you can speak to a GP for some antibiotics, and bear in mind they will want to dip a sample so try to get one now if you can. Paracetamol and ibuprofen to help with the pain, and then sit in a warm bath and just wee yourself in it (not pleasant I know) as it will help with the pain when weeing and with the tummy ache. Drink litres of water and just keep weeing. All the old wives takes about cranberry and bicarbonate just don't work for a proper UTI I'm afraid, you need the drink lots to dilute the wee so it doesn't sting and you need antibiotics. Once you've got your wees to be a bit bigger in volume and less frequent, get out of the bath and a hot water bottle should help your tummy and back pain. I hope you feel better soon!

WeebleGirl · 15/08/2020 06:24

Blood in urine definitely warrants antibiotics. It's so horrible isn't it! Have a hot bath, cystitis relief powder (if someone can get to a shop for you) and call 111 for out of hours prescription. That first antibiotic will start to work quickly and you will be able to sleep.

bumpyknuckles · 15/08/2020 06:30

Call 111. Blood in urine needs an appointment with a doctor. They'll organise a doctor's appointment for you today. Once a UTI is at that stage, it won't get better without antibiotics. You need them quickly or your kidneys could be damaged.

8elate8 · 15/08/2020 10:04

Thank you everyone for your kind words and advice ❤

I managed to fall asleep around 5 and got a few hours sleep, it felt so good! Have called 111 and expecting a call back sometime today. Its feeling so much better, only slight stinging and bleeding now and I can go around more or less as normal. Not sure if it's because of all the excess water I drank or paracetamol.

Glad it's improved OP, they're horrible things.

I haven't had one for over 30 years, but I still wince when I read or hear about them. I can recall that feeling like I was pissing razor blades so clearly.

kasho5 · 15/08/2020 10:33

Definitely get it checked today - I mistakenly battled through the weekend and was in so much pain by Monday morning when the doctors surgery opened.

Lepetitpiggy · 15/08/2020 10:37

I get these so often, I've been referred for a kidney scan. The night times are the absolute worst - my record was 14 times in one night. I so feel for you.

GidgetGirl · 15/08/2020 10:39

When I have a really uncomfortable UTI I like I sit in a hot, salty bath. VERY salty - like pour a whole bag of salt in there, even if it’s a shallow bath. It definitely eases it a bit for me. Definitely don’t put any other products in the bath though - nothing scented.

8elate8 · 15/08/2020 11:46

Thank you, will definitely try a bath later. Still feel better than I felt in the night but would prefer to get some antibiotics as my body's gone through a lot lately and my immune system is probably not great. @Lepetitpiggy that sounds really rough Flowers I hope they can give you an answer and it will be an easy fix!

Buscopan will stop the urge to go. Hope you're better soon!
