Not to make my DS have a test

My 5yo has been randomly selected to have a CV19 test for a survey. By all accounts, the test is quite unpleasant. AIBU not to put him through it for the sake of a survey? I feel bad as I’m always interested to see the results of these surveys and I know they are helping the government to gather data

Obviously I would make him have the test if he had symptoms but this is different

YABU - you should make him have the test
YANBU - don’t make him have the test

If it were an antibody test I'd leap at it, but a standard test? Nah. We've been really strictly observing guidance so the chances of my children having it are infinitesimally small. There'd be no value in the knowledge for me.

If they need the data, it has to be someone’s child. I’d swap with you if I could as I have taught my son the importance of medicine, and sometimes injections. I usually use a lot of positive reinforcement of how brave he is, usually get a treat afterwards of his choosing. It’s worked reasonably well so far.

It’s the antigen test (to see if you have it now) and it’s vanishingly unlikely that he could have coronavirus, having not been anywhere in the last couple of week

The coronavirus is also unpleasant.

@JuniperFather I don’t understand what you mean? I already said I would make him have the test if he had symptoms. This is just a random selection for a survey

Ds 11 has been selected. Told him it's just one of those unpleasant things he will have to do... No complaints.

Are you sure it’s a swab and not a spit test? We (me, DH, and DDs) did the latter for a survey. It’s to take a snapshot of how many people have it now with/without realising so they can use information for planning etc. I’d strongly encourage mine to do it, make it no big deal and see how we get on.
