Inspired by a thread about Bridget Jones - she mentions kitten heels a lot in the bools and I remember wearing them and thinking they were incredibly fashionable.

Now I look back and think they made my legs look short and squat, and that no item of clothing for a grown woman should have the prefix "kitten".

Nah they are awful.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 14/08/2020 14:35

What does Emma Watson think?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/08/2020 14:35

They're hideous.

enyemaka · 14/08/2020 14:35

Revolting shoes. Just under heeled mules IMHO.

I think 3" heels and above are much easier than those in the no-mans-land of 1-3" wibbly wobbly nonsense.

It seems the perfect amount to set you off balance whilst not allowing your body to compensate, making the heel height useless for anything but thicker styles.

(without any shoes, sometimes I walk flat and sometimes I tip toe, but I never naturally lift my heels slightly off the ground)

MrsEvil · 14/08/2020 14:43

I was thinking this the other day. Kitten heels are the worst. Back in the early 2000s I had some pink cow print ones, thinking back they were hideous

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 14/08/2020 14:47

YANBU they're awful

itchyfinger · 14/08/2020 14:48

"The mullet of shoes" as Lauren Conrad once wisely said.

If I had a three inch heel my toes wouldn't touch the ground lol!!
HepzibahGreen · 14/08/2020 14:49

YANBU. Especially on shoes with long narrow squared off toes...😖

ImRealHonest · 14/08/2020 14:49

I could never walk in them.

6 inch stripper heels, I have no problem with. Kitten heels? Not a chance.

ClementineWoolysocks · 14/08/2020 14:49

I don't mind the way they look but they're bloody awful to walk in, I always felt I was seconds away from a broken hip in them.

Ohtherewearethen · 14/08/2020 14:50

Yep, dreadful. I always found them hard to walk in too and would go over on them much more frequently than if wearing other heeled shoes. Mind you, I have been blessed with all the grace of a baby hippo so it could well have been user error!

1forAll74 · 14/08/2020 15:06

They are awful, and look quite ridiculous, and the very name of kitten heels sounds so naff. I think Theresa May liked them though !!

badacorn · 14/08/2020 15:09

I find higher heels much easier to walk in because it’s like being on tip toes. Kitten heels feel like wobbly flats.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 14/08/2020 15:16

I was a big fan in the day i will admit. and I still like them now

DD has confessed that when she was little they used to call them my witches shoes Grin

Bloodylovecheese · 14/08/2020 15:20

Hate them with a passion. They seem to be like walking on studs and prone to slipping from under me.

updownroundandround · 14/08/2020 15:21

Didn't mind them at all Grin

But I cannot be done with the huge platform sole plus 3" heels that make you 5 inches taller and unable to walk in anything like a 'normal' gait Confused

Rigamorph · 14/08/2020 15:26

If this is a kitten heel then these are my favourite type! Grin
Just high enough for a little bum wiggle, not high enough so that I can't wear them all day (and night).
What's not to love Wink

thelittlefox · 14/08/2020 15:26

YANBU. Horrible, remind me of Theresa May.

She also completely ruined leopard-print shoes for me.

Rigamorph · 14/08/2020 15:29

PS if it's not a kitten heel then please tell me what they are called so I can find more of them Grin

Captnip500 · 14/08/2020 15:32

Ugh, I could never stand them, even when they were fashionable in the early 2000s. Very wobbly and they don’t really give you the increased hight and leg length that normal high heel does. So what’s the point?!

I think the thing is a normal high heel transfers a lot of your weight onto the front of your foot, which is something you can get used to, like walking on tip toes. With kitten heels your weight is still on the back of your foot which is only supported by a skinny little heel. It makes for very wibbly wobbly walking and a potential sprained ankle!

ThaGugaBlasta · 14/08/2020 15:34

The truly evil kitten heel is the late 90s version, so beloved of LK Bennett at the time, usually in a shantung silk with a painfully pointed toe. It only ever suited sylph-like Sloanes or those with tiny feet. My 42s looked like boats from the side, and my calves were like trotters from the back.

rigamorph that's not what I'd call a kitten heel - it's more of a Louis quinze heel? I think there's another name but I can't summon it up! they're quite flattering and much easier to walk on.

namechangetheworld · 14/08/2020 15:35

Kitten heels are so ugly. They make the shoes look so matronly and do absolutely no favours to the person wearing them.
