I am rubbish with technology.

I need first phones for the DC (11 and 13). 13 year old has SN and won't use it like a typical teen - more for communication and a few videos and stuff.11 year old is more 'typical'.

have a budget of max £80 per phone. Can someone recommend a decent model for that price? Do I buy new or am I better off with a refurbished Samsung for example..

Had a Google but i only get information overload. I have a very old phone and I am not up to date.

I don't want a contact - just the phone and it needs to run on Android.

Pulls up a cushion.

I'm also looking for recommendations, as DS joins Y7. Dumb phones not smartphones though.

Haba
my DC are on dumb phones now - just some cheapish Nokia's of Amazon.

Nokia and Motorola do some cheap Android models at your price point.

Just go on Argos' website, and navigate thus:

Home >> Technology >> Mobile phones and accessories >> SIM free phones

I'm not posting a link.

Try an android
Usually cheaper than an iPhone and the older models don't outdate as quickly

Maybe an older Samsung or huweai (can't remember the exact spelling)
Just an older one rather than the latest model

Buy a sim free phone, got ours from amazon (direct not marketplace) and recommend giffgaff for a cheap sim, secondhand (or hand me down from a friend) is also a good option just ensure it will run the desired apps and has enough capacity. My DD's like Samsung, they started on the cheapest smartphone model at the time and now have the a series (bought from university loan)

OP already said it needs to run on Android. They're up to speed.

Thanks angelfishrock. Think I'll use Argos as it's easy to collect near here.

Nokia are also worth a shout - think the Nokia 1.3 is £79 in Argos.
