we've got a week booked there leaving Saturday and I'm on complete tenterhooks! I know its a first world problem but after 3 kids home educating hell a low-key rural self catering place seemed just the ticket a few weeks ago, now I feel soooo in limbo....

France number of cases per 10,000 is much lower than the U.K. average so I’m struggling to see the logic of a quarantine.

Was it here @ gold? It has hit 30 there.

goldpendant · 12/08/2020 22:56

Yes @Humphriescushion - I mean I'm not sure where I read that Spain was 27 when the implemented the quarantine?

Humphriescushion · 13/08/2020 05:49

Ah sorry @ gold see what you mean and missed guylans link above. Yes will be interesting to know what Spain was when it put in.

Humphriescushion · 13/08/2020 05:58

Think you were right @goldpendant unfortunately - looks like it was 27 per 100,000 as you said! Not looking good .

So if they are applying blanket policy to this then I think we know what will be announced today. I can't see how they could keep France off the list without uproar now.

I'm actually really hoping it is announced now, takes the decision and out of our hands.

stovetopespresso · 13/08/2020 14:01

is it too soon to be cautiously optimistic? I've probably cursed it nowGrin

Grin @ stove! Holding my breathe as well. Trying to work out all the permutations of our trip and hoping nothing happens today.

Not sure I am much the wiser after reading that. But seems that nothing will happen.

stovetopespresso · 13/08/2020 20:26

nothing until we get there, rules change, have to have the 'discussion' ....I see a traffic jam in my future

Aragog · 13/08/2020 22:18

So France is now added.
Just need to see if the foreign office changes too

BluebellForest836 · 13/08/2020 22:44

Hmmm... il not travelling til November ... hopefully it’s lifted by then.
Il wait on booking the flights

MotherofKitties · 13/08/2020 22:50

Out of curiosity and because I can't find anything definitive online, does anyone know how or if the quarantine period is going to be enforced with French nationals/people who live in France travelling to the U.K.?

As in, is the government going down an Australian route of making people stay in government approved hotels/buildings for 14 days to ensure quarantine? Or just trust people to quarantine somewhere once they get here?

BluebellForest836 · 13/08/2020 22:53

I think we Spain people just had to give a name and address of where you would be staying on your return. They could essentially knock on the door to see if you are in but that’s it. No real quarantine

MotherofKitties · 13/08/2020 22:59

Thanks @BluebellForest836

baterwaiter · 13/08/2020 23:05

I am sure a lot of this will be with Teachers in mind. 2.5 weeks to schools opening. They won’t want any more teachers travelling now.

Humphriescushion · 14/08/2020 05:30

Oh well, thats our plans gone and all kinds of complications. At least we know now. Now to see if there is any chance we can change our holiday cottage booking at this late date. Sorry everyone who has had their plans cancelled hope it is not too painful and expensive.

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 14/08/2020 05:37

@EmmaStone did you get there before the FCO changed the advice last night?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 14/08/2020 05:44

France has said it will be reciprocal, so anyone travelling from England to France will have to quarantine.

Have the devolved nations also added France to the quarantine list or is it just England?

Bairnsmum05 · 14/08/2020 05:51

Scotland have added France too.
