we've got a week booked there leaving Saturday and I'm on complete tenterhooks! I know its a first world problem but after 3 kids home educating hell a low-key rural self catering place seemed just the ticket a few weeks ago, now I feel soooo in limbo....

If it's Thursday I wonder if it will be immediate or a day grace or so

PulcinoPio · 11/08/2020 23:19

Cases have gone down a bit over the past couple of days. You can find the official government figures here:

www.santepubliquefrance.fr/dossiers/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-chiffres-cles-et-evolution-de-la-covid-19-en-france-et-dans-le-monde

The UK media reports are based on the 7-day average, which is still high after a big spike at the end of last week.

stovetopespresso · 12/08/2020 08:12

thanks @PulcinoPio! I literally don't know whether I'm meant to be packing shorts for france or coats for a staycation, or doing nothing but roll around in a pile of empty wine bottles Grin

In exactly the same position and I am worried about travelling but a cloud hanging over the trip as we worry that quarantine will be announced any moment. We can quarantine but I really don’t want to! Brittany Ferries say they are sailing regardless though and won’t be refunding anyone who cancels so I’m prepared to lose the money/tussle with our travel insurance company. It would just be good to know either way! I hate the uncertainty.

BluebellForest836 · 12/08/2020 08:20

Any idea when they might announce it?

I have Disneyland booked for November and I can go and quarantine when I’m back as working from home but other members cannot... I was meant to be booking the flights on easyJet this week But holding on at the moment....

Luckybe40 · 12/08/2020 08:33

We did it the other way, had holiday time booked off but waited until 3/4 days before holiday to see where we could go with least likelihood of cancellations or quarantine. We are currently in Turkey for 2 weeks, it’s absolutely glorious and everyone here is wearing masks, ect. There’s not many people holidaying so we basically have to pool to ourself!

stovetopespresso · 12/08/2020 14:09

announcement tomorrow hopefully @BluebellForest836.

@stovetopespresso thank you. Il hold off for now

LlamaofDrama · 12/08/2020 14:32

Me too... I don't want them to ban it, I want them to say it's still under review for another 5 days. Due to go on Friday and no alternative holiday option. Can see it's not a disaster but I just want to know rather than constantly prepping plan b as well as plan a

stovetopespresso · 12/08/2020 14:52

we wre on plan c now as in go (fingers crossed) but wait for NEXT Thursdays announcement and have to leave france early and race back with all the other holidaymakers from everywhere on the continent! lovely.

We are waiting too, kind of hoping for quarantine to be implemented- at least it's make our minds up.

Booked last June for big family wedding anniversary, but if we have to quarantine kids will miss first two weeks of school (including DD starting reception). That, coupled with actually isolating and not leaving the house for 2 weeks means I'd rather have to cancel than run the risk.

Whatafustercluck · 12/08/2020 15:32

I empathise op. We got back on Sunday but were keeping a close eye on the situation while over there. If we were due to go now, I don't think we would - quarantine would have been a deal breaker. I think those due to go shortly will either not be going (without quarantine) or will get out there and have to quarantine when they get back. We were very fortunate.

Most people I know have gone away. Many have opted for staycation and headed south. But some have gone to Italy, Greece or Turkey.

dameofdilemma · 12/08/2020 15:58

A lot of people booked and paid for holidays long before the lockdown in March.

If the Govt had bothered to stand up to big businesses and insist on refunds, a lot more people would have cancelled, not travelled and would have reduced the risk of Covid transfer. The Govt chose not to do that and have as a consequence increased the risk of Covid transfer.

It's all very well to say 'its you're own fault for travelling' but people stood to lose thousands of pounds. Businesses have been put before individuals (yet again).

JuniperFather · 12/08/2020 16:00

@smalalalalalala

Why?

I am in France, have been for 10 days now and rules are far more respected than in UK re masks, distance, etc. Touristic places are a no-no but rural is fine, apart from heat wave.

So far, France have dealt better than UK, bans seem more a way to blame someone/something, i.e. the foreigners than actually doing something than is helpful

You're not allowed to say people are respecting the rules more regarding masks on here. You might be quietly insulting people. Grin
EmmaStone · 12/08/2020 17:06

Our French holiday was booked last September. We've missed 4 holidays already this year, my DD (Y10) has missed language and geography trips that now won't be rearranged, and we're headed into an unknown winter. I'm desperately keeping everything crossed that the govt tries to give us August. Without this holiday, I can see my mood nosediving horrendously, selfish though that may be.

I've amended our travel plans so we're driving instead of flying, we're staying in a remote part of France and just want to hang out by the pool and go for walks. Losing this will be the final straw for me. We're due to cross the Channel tomorrow night...

stovetopespresso · 12/08/2020 18:29

@EmmaStone good luck! what actual time is the announcement tomorrow I wonder. if u include all kids trips we've also had 4 hols canceled and neeeeed a break

PulcinoPio · 12/08/2020 18:45

Today's case numbers are up again :-(

DH is French and he and the kids will be gutted if we miss out on this trip. We've waited until the end of the holidays because the situation in the UK was so bad and now it seems to be going the other way.

Aragog · 12/08/2020 18:50

We got back from France a week ago after a fab two week holiday.

Dd is due to return with her boyfriend on Monday.
I just wish they knew one way or the other now as it's horrid for them being in limbo as to whether it'll happen or not. They dare to book their internal train tickets until the last minute as they know they won't get that money back.

Humphriescushion · 12/08/2020 19:45

Just home and checked no.s they are very big today was hoping for a lower no. Is not looking good.

TacosTuesday · 12/08/2020 20:09

The press are reporting a 'doubling' of cases overnight, but looking at the numbers Monday was 795 which is the lowest it's been for months and then 1400 yesterday is what it has been for the past few weeks so bit of twisty reporting there. Need to know what the rate per 100k is really, Spain was up in the mid 30's when they clamped down on them, France has been low 20s...but the government will also be looking at the upward trend which there undoubtedly is - it's just where they're setting the bar for unacceptable which we don't know!

TacosTuesday · 12/08/2020 20:12

Another vote here for if it's going to happen-just do it tomorrow and everyone can decide accordingly. Teacher friends has already decided not to go and cancelled among other people that don't want to miss start if school. We don't) won't either but can't rebook unless the government advice changes...

101namesforme · 12/08/2020 20:19

@stovetopespresso

I wouldn't mind quarantine, would have to clear it with my boss though, but I think they will ban all non-essential travel to enable those who can't isolate to not go and claim money back like Spain. if u travel against guidelines it invalidates your insurance *@SomeOtherGirl*
Sadly not everyone booked to go to Spain can cancel and get their money back. DS booked with loveholidays and they are saying they can deliver his package holiday to a Spanish island next week and so it’s not cancelled. The insurance they sold him doesn’t cover it either!!

He won’t be going for work reasons but stands to lose £1,200 at the moment. We are trying to negotiate but it looks as though he’s up shit cream without a paddle.

MsTSwift · 12/08/2020 20:20

We in rural Germany if France locks down kids and I will fly back and poor dh will have to drive back on his own..he can happily quarantine but kids desperate to get back to school. We drove to avoid flying but needs must...dh is German before the haters kick in. Bliss here R rate half ours and so less crowded

goldpendant · 12/08/2020 21:10

France rate reported as up to 30 per 100,000 today. I don't know where I read it but thought Spain was 27 when they implemented restrictions?

TacoTuesday, I found this today. Looks like France is now 30.4 per 100,000
