Having trouble sleeping due to the heat. Just get off to a deep sleep, and then woken by 2 neighbours having a chat outside. Was 11.40pm, a very quiet area and my bedroom is at the front as live in a bungalow. They were standing 3 - 4 metres apart.
DH is up at 5am for 12 hour shifts. I went out, wasn't rude, just said 'hi guys, it's quite late and we are up at 5'. Cringing now, but was pretty grumpy at the time, especially when it took me another couple of hours to get back to sleep.

I think that’s fine. Did they move on after you asked?

HeronLanyon · 11/08/2020 08:17

Sounds fair enough to me !

MoaningMertle2020 · 11/08/2020 08:29

Yes they did say sorry, but I now feel mean

HeronLanyon · 11/08/2020 08:56

Not mean. If I were you when you see them next I’d just say ‘About the other night - it’s really hard to sleep at the moment - thanks for understanding - it made a big difference I got to sleep after. Really appreciate it. ‘
Or similar

NoSauce · 11/08/2020 09:00

It’s fine OP. You were polite, don’t worry about it. Too many people say nothing then get all anxious and grumpy.

GinWithRosie · 11/08/2020 09:02

They moved...you got to sleep...why are you giving this headspace now?

Halo1234 · 11/08/2020 09:22

Yanbu.

BarbaraofSeville · 11/08/2020 09:23

Of course you're not being unreasonable or rude. Hopefully they'll be suitably ashamed of their low level antisocial behaviour as to not do it again.

romeolovedjulliet · 11/08/2020 09:26

why feel guilty ? sound carries at night and if they wanted to chat they could go indoors and do it.
at least they were decent to apologise.

SeasonFinale · 11/08/2020 09:28

It was after 11pm too which would be my "cut off"

badacorn · 11/08/2020 09:40

Fair enough.

Not unreasonable amd not rude

longwayoff · 11/08/2020 10:14

I think you were remarkably restrained. Well done, I never take well to being woken if I've only slept a few hours, I'd have been far less polite.

Queenoftheashes · 11/08/2020 10:17

God you were so nice about it. I had a bunch of twats across the road having a fucking pool party or something. I think they had a paddling pool out all day then it was loud music, singing and literal screaming at midnight. I didn’t have the energy to do more than wish them dead.

Waveysnail · 11/08/2020 10:18

Foam earplugs are a godsend. You can have all windows open and still get good sleep

MoaningMertle2020 · 11/08/2020 11:01

They moved...you got to sleep...why are you giving this headspace now?

Fair point. We are new here though and I do tend to overthink things

OP posts:
MoaningMertle2020 · 11/08/2020 11:04

I do have ear plugs, just never had a use for them in this area as it's so quiet. I am also aware of how sound carries now, so I'll be sure to remember that

OP posts:
GinWithRosie · 11/08/2020 11:10

OP...you were polite, they moved 👍. No need to think about it anymore.

Think about it like this: If you were in a supermarket and said 'excuse me please' to someone in your way in the aisle, would you be worrying about this exchange 12 hours later? (I'm not trying to be mean here, just trying to give some 'daytime perspective' for you...I know how things can feel at night when you're tired 💓)
