back in the days when there were only 4 channels to choose from and kids' tv was from 4-6 on weeknights and on Saturday morning.
Eg. Bonanza reruns, Snooker championships..... the very bottom of the barrel was horse racing for me!

My mum always goes on about Alias Smith and Jones and how much she loved Pete Dual @Samcro

@Ifionlyknewthenwhatiknownow3

I loved to watch Come Dancing with Mum on a Saturday night, early to mid seventies, I'd have been 8, 9 or 10.
Not SEVEN! ? 😁
mrsBtheparker · 10/08/2020 22:48

And not a reality programme in sight! Bliss.

minnieok · 10/08/2020 22:56

@botswanabanana

Howard's way was my favourite. How I got interested in sailing. I'm looking at my first ever yacht this week!

Pete Duel was lovely. Alias Smith and Jones was good watching. My sister wrote several fan fiction books about them that were actually pretty good.
Dozer · 10/08/2020 22:58

Dr Kildare, and Sons and Daughters, with our childminder after school!

I remember enduring Ski Sunday with my parents. Loved the Krypton Factor, Bread, Dempsey and Makepeace.

bottlenose301 · 10/08/2020 23:40

Oh and these gems, Bergerac and Big Break!

RAOK · 10/08/2020 23:48

I loved My 2 Dads and 2.4 Children. I will admit to watching Sunset Beach and Family Affairs. It was annoying when Neighbours was cancelled for Wimbledon and the budget/elections.

Also watches Little House on the Prairie on a Sunday morning. I liked The Bill and Heartbeat too.

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 10/08/2020 23:54

Our parents used to put Jim'll Fix It on regularly. Ick!! On the plus side Bullseye and Big Break (in spite of Jim Davidson) were great!!

ViciousJackdaw · 10/08/2020 23:57

I remember watching Chocky, Blakes Seven, World of Sport (the rival to Grandstand), Paint Along With Nancy and Yan Can Cook (in the summer holidays or when I was off school sick) and some god-awful dirge called Charles in Charge about a young man who was a childminder (obvs. he'd be branded a paedo now!). Does anyone remember a cartoon called Wait Til Your Father Gets Home?

alittleisland · 11/08/2020 06:50

@MrsGrindah

Yes Kate and Allie

Does anyone remember in 70s and possibly early 80s that they used to have variety shows live from British Seaside resorts on Sat tea times? Lots of dancers , comedians, magicians etc?

Also we use to love beauty competitions...

@MrsGrindah

I was thinking last night how I was always watching variety shows when I was a kid - that must have been why.

The80sweregreat · 11/08/2020 06:50

Reality shows were not around much in the 80s, but I do recall a show called ' the big time' with Esther Rantzen on bbc one and Sheena Easton did get her big break on there. She even sung with Prince and did a Bond theme!
There was also 'Opportunity Knocks' and 'New faces ' which was a sort of forerunner to Pop Idol ,( well, Simon Cowell did say it gave him the idea for his shows, but just for singers )
Many comedians did well out of these shows too.
I used to love 'Flambards' and bought all the books. Was a bit in love with Will.

Mammyloveswine · 11/08/2020 07:02

I grew up in the 90s and remember being allowed fo stay up to watch brookside (so not age appropriate!).

Also byker grove (when pj got blinded and omg when jemma got electrocuted 😱😱😱).

Used to love art attack sigh Neil Buchanan and Bitsa (bitsa this, bitsa that..put em altogether and look what you have..) made lots of shit.

I can remember watching the first ever lottery show (whilst making a car out of a tissue box!) and asking my dad if it would be on forever and my mind being blown! I will have been about 4 or 5!

Also heartbeat on a Sunday night... Noels house party on a Saturday night (we went to blobby land one time and it was shit).

PoloNeckKnickers · 11/08/2020 07:18

Anyone remember a daytime ITV drama called Gems? Set in a fashion designers. Would have been in the early to mid 80s.

ElinoristhenewEnid · 11/08/2020 07:31

@Viciousjackdaw - yes I remember ' wait til your father gets home' alongwith topcat!

ClementineWoolysocks · 11/08/2020 09:18

And a BBC2 (?) programme called Maggie set in Scotland. Maybe Glasgow? About a girl who didn't want to work in the local factory and was going to be 'someone'.

I loved Maggie, I also had the books and read them over and over.
