To be unable to find school shoes (teen boys)

What do your teen boys wear to school?

Uniform list says "Plain, all black, low heeled footwear (not trainers)". DS (size 11 adult) doesn't want anything that looks like smart men's shoes (brogues or Oxfords or whatever). So what does that leave? I think I'm trying to find shoes that are un-trainerish enough that the school are happy but trainer-ish enough that DS is happy.

Doesn't help that none of us have really worn closed shoes since March!

Ascent footwear. Last ages and apparently very comfy. Feel like trainers...

Hazelnutlatteplease · 10/08/2020 18:07

Kickers

nettytree · 10/08/2020 18:08

He may not want those type of shoes. But he will have to understand that now his feet are bigger, adult type shoes are all you can get. It's only for school. 6 hours.

Brian9600 · 10/08/2020 18:11

@Hazelnutlatteplease

Kickers
Ah, yes! I had forgotten Kickers. Will look at Ascent as well.

Thanks, all.

Does your school have examples of acceptable and unacceptable shoes? Ours does and pretty much only formal shoes are accepted.

SingleHandSue · 10/08/2020 18:11

My DS has had these all through senior school. They’re comfy and hard wearing and a good price.

Docs?

Goingdownto · 10/08/2020 18:12

Is this his first year there? Because what other people wear would be good to know. If you are in any parents groups (Facebook etc) you could ask on there. Mine can wear trainers so that's no help

Hazelnutlatteplease · 10/08/2020 18:12

Your welcome. Kickers are the best.

whiplashy · 10/08/2020 18:14

how’s this an AIBU

Jeffjefftyjeff · 10/08/2020 18:14

My DS is same size. Reebok do a work shoe which DS tolerated but might be too traineR-y for your school’s uniform Rules

Treads.

Mixingitall · 10/08/2020 19:41

Dr Martens?

ultrababy · 10/08/2020 20:01

100% Treads.

RedskyAtnight · 10/08/2020 20:05

He may just have to suck it up. Don't suppose he really wants to wear the school uniform either, but he has to. Plain black slip ons or lace up are what every other boy will be wearing.

NC4Now · 10/08/2020 20:08

Have a look in Sports Direct. DS is very particular about shoes but always gets sorted in there. He’s had the Kangol ones PP posted a few times without complaint.

CoRhona · 10/08/2020 20:09

We had Clarks Air Wear ones but now DS (16) is a man's size 13 it gets harder to find anything!!

IndigoHexagon · 10/08/2020 20:17

All black leather converse or vans. They do ones with even the logo in black so they can be worn as school shoes

superstu · 10/08/2020 20:22

sports direct kangol look smart and last up to a year if taken care of (under £25 normally). if budget is higher say £50+ will get kickers

Idontbelieveit12 · 10/08/2020 20:23

My son wears Deakins. I don’t pay full price though I get them from a discount sports shop near me.

Roseburn · 10/08/2020 20:27

another vote for Sports Direct. They get in 'school' shoes ( which pass muster with teenage DS) specially at this time of year.

Georgieporgie29 · 10/08/2020 20:27

Another vote for treads

MumsyMumIAmNot · 10/08/2020 22:22

Mines same size. Sports direct black leather school shoes about £35 plus £4.99 delivery and they are good quality and will last.

MumsyMumIAmNot · 10/08/2020 22:23

I call them school shoes they are just black shoes 😂
