To think I didn’t do anything wrong

Was driving to work today. On a 60mph stretch of road. The road is quite wide but was on a bend in the road and there was a cyclist in front of me so I slowed down to about 15mph to give them room and didn’t overtake until I got round the bend.

Anyway, the car that was behind the one behind me, was starting to edge out as I could see him in my wing mirror. When I got round the bend, I overtook the cyclist as the road was clear on the other side. I don’t think the car was even on the other side of the road when I overtook but he was edging out and in, when I had completed the manoeuvre, I was back onto the correct side of the road and he goes flying past me on the other side of the road (carrying out his overtaking manoeuvre) and blasts the horn at me.

I don’t think I did anything wrong, he sped on away ahead of me and then further on down the road he was behind another car and I saw him edging out behind it then overtaking. Maybe he was just impatient.

@RowboatsinDisguise

Did you overtake the cyclist without moving onto the other (wrong) side of the road because it sounds like there was a point where all three of you were in a horizontal line? That’s a complete no no as far as I’m concerned. If you’re overtaking a cyclist, particularly at 60, you should be as far away as possible.
Yes, we were in a queue and I was first in the queue as I was stuck behind the cyclist on a bend.

As soon as I got round the bend, I overtook as it was safe to do so at that point.

I moved out onto the other side of the road to complete the overtake.

I then moved back into the correct side of the road.

That’s when I accelerated back up to 60mph but before I reached 60mph, he overtook (I was on the correct side of the road) and blasted the horn at me. Maybe I should have been slower so that it wasn’t harder for him to overtake.

Oh and I also put on my indicator when I overtook so at least those behind were aware of my intentions.

I was on a suburban 30 limit road the other day and there was a cyclist in front of me with a child in a seat on his bike. I possibly could have pulled out to pass him without going in the other side of the road but I thought it was too risky - I definitely was more risk-averse due to the child passenger than I would have been for a lone male cyclist. That probably doesn’t make logical sense but it was my gut feeling. I slowed right down till he turned off into a side road (maybe 2-3 mins later) and got beeped at from behind. Better safe than sorry though.

So you sped up as someone (who you'd already seen was edging out to overtake) was coming past you? Poor form on both sides, I'd say.

No. I was already speeding up before he came past me. Then he appeared and blasted the horn

I live in the south west too and there are plenty of arsy driver. You did nothing wrong, you suppose to slow down. He will come a cropper, hopefully no one else will be invloved.
