To not want to hold friends new baby

Hi all,

My friend has just had a baby and I'm due to visit in a couple of weeks. She's already saying things like "bet you can't wait to have a cuddle" so it's sort of a given that I'll be holding the baby.

I know it might be a bit OTT but I feel like this probably isn't a good idea? I've been pretty good with social distancing and will admit I am a bit paranoid about it, but I just don't think that it's sensible. I won't be able to isolate for 2 weeks before and they obviously can't either.

I am planning on bringing a change of clothes (as I'll be getting public transport) and obviously lots of hand washing... but curious to know others thoughts and if I'm just being silly.

Thanks

Just tell her how you feel. I am sure she'll understand.

I'm just taking the lead from my friends who have had babies recently about holding the baby, or just sticking to social distancing.

If you don't want to hold the baby just say so

I would tell her you are concerned and ask her to ask her midwife for advice on this.

Dear friend, as I’m coming on public transport, I’d prefer not to take the risk of holding your lovely baby. I can’t wait to see him/her. OP

I’m in a similar predicament with a friend's new baby, and I have a high risk child at home. I have a feeling I’m going to offend soon.

Yep that's the thing, will definitely offend no matter what I say!
