This has appeared around my bites 7 days after being bitten ... Anyone know why it is not healing and what the concentric circles are?

AIBU to think this is not a normal midge bite?

Could be a tick.

Chanjer · 10/08/2020 10:06

Looks like a tick bite and not in a good way

Ilikewinter · 10/08/2020 10:06

Do you have any other symptoms?...not to panic you but google lyme disease..if you feel unwell you need to phone the doctors asap.

mum11970 · 10/08/2020 10:06

Possible Lyme’s disease. Go to pharmacist if you can’t get a doctor’s appointment.

SideEyeing · 10/08/2020 10:07

I second Lyme - can last for ages so best to get it checked now.

JenandFlo · 10/08/2020 10:07

Looks like it could be Lyme disease. A course of antibiotics should clear it up but go doctors ASAP.

Movinghouseatlast · 10/08/2020 10:08

Tick bite. Go to the pharmacist and get a doctors appointment.

itchyfinger · 10/08/2020 10:08

Go to the doctors asap. If they try and say it's not lyme disease ask for an antibiotic prescription anyway. Please see Constance Hall's recent facebook post.

LaLaLandIsNoFun · 10/08/2020 10:09

Yup. Agree that looks like the classic bullseye that you get with Lyme. You need to see your GP

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 10/08/2020 10:10

Your GP would find it useful to see those photographs.

Ilikewinter · 10/08/2020 10:10

Dont goto the pharmacy, they cant give you anything for lyme disease, you need antibiotics.

LaTomatina · 10/08/2020 10:10

Yup. You need to get that seen asap. If you can't see your doctor today, I would go to A&E. You'll be fine, but it needs immediate attention.

WhattheHhashappened · 10/08/2020 10:12

Thank you! I sent pictures to the doctor this morning (everything is online) but the rings didn’t show up as well... if they phone back I’ll ask if I can send them the picture above.

Don’t wait. Send them the better photos. The earlier you start ABs for potential Lyme, the better.

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 10/08/2020 10:28

Lyme is transmitted by the deer tick. You may have no symptoms of it for weeks or months if you have contracted it. You really need a blood test for Lyme to find out if you have it so they can treat it with appropriate antibiotic course. Results take a little while as they have to go to the Lyme laboratory at Southampton (I'm a neurology secretary so we do see patients with Lyme occasionally, but it isn't very common in the UK yet). Don't panic!

Chwaraeteg · 10/08/2020 10:28

Jesus. Go to the GP. That looks like Lime disease from a tick, which can become very serious if not treated.

WhattheHhashappened · 10/08/2020 10:31

The assistant practitioner has just phoned and he said the bites has caused Cellulitis. He has prescribed antibiotics and said I had to monitor for spread.
If it spreads I will need to go for intravenous antibiotics...
Googling cellulitis now... Shock

OP posts:
WhattheHhashappened · 10/08/2020 10:35

Cellulitis occurs when bacteria, most commonly streptococcus and staphylococcus, enter through a crack or break in your skin. The incidence of a more serious staphylococcus infection called methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is increasing.

Not sure what the last bit means really!

Also googled Lyme disease Shock

Glad you got this seen to early - looks like Tic bite, with possible Lime to me, but pleased the practitioner has you on treatment.

Lime disease is eminently treatable, but best caught early.

Thecobwebsarewinning · 10/08/2020 10:38

Cellulitis sounds scarier than it is. It’s a medical term for the bite/wound/scratch etc getting infected by bacteria. I had it when I was young and had my ears pierced and was lazy about keeping them clean. I recently had it after some minor surgery, I don’t think it was anyone’s fault - these things just happen sometimes. Some antibiotics should clear it.

Mrsjayy · 10/08/2020 10:40

I was just coming on to say that might be the start of cellulitis I have had it so glad you went and got it seen to.

Mrsjayy · 10/08/2020 10:44

Well it can be serious I was in hospital getting iv antibiotics . I left it ages i thought it was midge bites on my legs Shock

SteelyPanther · 10/08/2020 10:46

I think it’s tick bites.
Google tick bites and look for the bull ring effect.
Phone your GP back if you’re not happy.

LaTomatina · 10/08/2020 11:00

I'm pretty sure it's tick/insect bites too. The bullseye look is the classic warning sign.

I had an experience with cellulitis earlier this year, on one of my children. It looked very different - it was a very fast spreading, pulsating irregularly shaped red rash accompanied by a very high fever. Also needed urgent attention and antibiotics.

namechanger0989 · 10/08/2020 11:03

I would also read Constance halls recent post today about tick bites and Lyme disease and push your dr to treat you for that, it's sounds like a really awful disease.
