Dog poo in bins, aibu?

We live close to a large farm with a lot of land. It’s not a ‘working farm’, it’s quite a hippy venture and hosts (often rather noisy) camping, small festivals and gatherings. There are a few houses and caravans on the land where people live.

It has a public right of way through it and we use it to walk our dog as does every other local. We meticulously pick up dog poo and even pick up other peoples if we see it’s been left.

There are a few large (normal household refuse) wheelie bins belonging to the farm at the entrance which we put our dog poo bags in.

Yesterday there was a laminated sign stuck to the bins. It said that that the bin men will not take dog poo and it was disrespectful to expect them to and to take it home.

I was under the impression that Poo bags could be put in wheelie bins and don’t feel we’ve been disrespectful. Aibu?

We share a large bin with 2 neighbours, the bin is at the drive entrance so making it easier for the bin men. Unfortunately we also have a public footpath and lots of poo bags get chucked in, leaving us to do an empty and wash regularly. Bin bags are taken out of top by bin men due to size of bin. So please take your dog bags home or at least ensure they are within a larger black sack. We have a dog too and I end up double bagging when out walking until a suitable bin is available for disposal.

Why would you include this, other than to try and find an excuse as to why it’s ok to use their bins for your dog poo??

Just because people lead a different life style to you, it doesn’t give you any support right over them.

Some moron kept putting dog poo in our recycling bin Shock. One day I grabbed a paint brush and painted "No dog poo,""Take your poo home," etc on the bin. Amazingly it worked - if been wondering if they were unable to read but apparently not.

The council here in our park removed all the dog poo bins, all the 'normal' bins that were around the park and replaced them with just three bins at each entrance for all plastic, food waste and poo bags.terrible decision.so the council will take poo bags.

I think it’s unbelievingly rude to dump dog poo or put rubbish in other people’s bins.
Recently, i have had some renovations on my home so have had a skip on my drive. You wouldn’t believe the number of people who have put their dog poo and household waste in the skip. The skip was supposed to remain for ten days. After three days we had to ask the skip company to take the skip away as the stench of poo and household waste ( including soiled nappies) was overpowering .

@Iwantacookie

Sounds like there needs to be more public bins or dog pooh bins. Can you not speak to the farm and ask them about extra bins etc. They may be happy for you to use just one or may be able to light a fire under the council to get one put in.
If someone was using my bins for their dog turds and they knocked on my door expecting me to go to the council on their behalf to “light a fire” to get them to provide more street bins I’d think they were a CF.
WhatATimeToBeAlive · 10/08/2020 13:11

Jesus, imagine if every dog walker was doing this? The bins would have loads of poo in it. Gross, just take it home and stick it in your own bin.

Winterwoollies · 10/08/2020 13:16

So you criticise the way they run their farm, use their land to walk your dogs and then criticise them for being pissed that you’re leaving your dog’s shit to fester in their bins? Entitled much?

Yeahnahmum · 10/08/2020 13:48

Not ok op...

This drives me bonkers. At the back of my house is a lovely bridal path beside a canal. The area is really looked after untill you come to the small bin which is for rubbish and it’s over flowing with dog shit bags. It’s literally dumped in the floor beside it too, easily 100 dog shit bags from over the weekend.

Also I went to a near by lake yesterday. There was mounds of carrier bags full of rubbish beside the bin - even a metal BBQ some one had just thrown. Animals had got in to the bags and ripped them apart it was awful.

Just take your shit home with you!

On another note - my friend was walking home from walking her dog once. She had two dog shit bags inside a carrier bag to take home. Some one rode past on a bike and swiped the bag out of her hand. Don’t think he would have been impressed with what he found tbh Grin

I was expecting/hoping that this was a reverse but as op hasn't returned then presumably it's not.
For the avoidance of doubt, you should always take your dog poo home unless there is a designated dog poo bin. It is 100% unacceptable to use someone else's bin for your rubbish, especially when it is dog poo.

It's weird how some people can take full containers of food and drink to a 'beauty spot' but mysteriously become incapable of taking them back again when they're empty.

The old adage is a good one - take nothing but photos and memories, leave nothing but footprints.

WitchQueenofDarkness · 11/08/2020 13:33

And my suspicions are confirmed - it IS the farm near me as the bins there have a new dog poo notice!

The landowner is really good about letting the public and their dogs wander over his land even if they don't stick 100% to the footpaths. He even went round and tied all his farm and kissing gates open at the start of the pandemic so that people could do so more safely without having to touch anything.

It would be an awful shame if this laissez faire attitude ended due to people taking the piss with his bins.
