Dog poo in bins, aibu?

We live close to a large farm with a lot of land. It’s not a ‘working farm’, it’s quite a hippy venture and hosts (often rather noisy) camping, small festivals and gatherings. There are a few houses and caravans on the land where people live.

It has a public right of way through it and we use it to walk our dog as does every other local. We meticulously pick up dog poo and even pick up other peoples if we see it’s been left.

There are a few large (normal household refuse) wheelie bins belonging to the farm at the entrance which we put our dog poo bags in.

Yesterday there was a laminated sign stuck to the bins. It said that that the bin men will not take dog poo and it was disrespectful to expect them to and to take it home.

I was under the impression that Poo bags could be put in wheelie bins and don’t feel we’ve been disrespectful. Aibu?

I can't believe you thought it was acceptable to put your dog's shit into someone else's bin. Imagine the stink of that in this hot weather. It would be less of a nuisance to actually leave it on the ground as at least if would dry out very quickly instead of sweating and stinking in a bag in someone's household bin. You are extremely unreasonable. Why do you think you shouldn't take it home and put it in your own bin?

Spidey66 · 10/08/2020 08:45

I'd try and avoid putting my dogs poo in someone else's bin. However I'd rather it was in my bin than on the pavement.

Boohoohoohooho · 10/08/2020 08:45

That's really not ok. You should take your dog pop home and put it in your own bin or find a council owned dog waste bin.

I've had someone put bagged dog poo in my bin and the bag has burst - it was vomit inducing.

SteelyPanther · 10/08/2020 08:45

Take your dog poo home and put it in your own bin.

Micah · 10/08/2020 08:46

I live on a popular walking path.

I don’t have a problem with people putting rubbish in our bins. Why would I? As long as it’s only an empty wrapper or bag of dog poo, and they’re not shoving a weeks worth of rubbish in so I can’t use it. It’s better than the alternative which is poo left lying about, poo bags on trees, and all sorts of rubbish generally flying about.

I suspect they may regret their bin posessiveness when people just start dumping their rubbish. I constantly have crisp packets and other wrappers flying about my drive and next to my house. Makes the grass difficult to mow when you’re shredding dog shit, cardboard and plastic. Just shove it in the bin!

Bins are council property anyway? This sounds a bit like parking spaces for an argument.

SlothMama · 10/08/2020 08:46

Of course YABU you don't put your shit in someone elses bin! I accept that my bin will smell because of my dogs poo going into it. But it's just selfish to put it in someone elses.

Trethew · 10/08/2020 08:48

How would you feel if someone put dirty nappies in your bin?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/08/2020 08:54

I don’t have a problem with people putting rubbish in our bins. Why would I? Round here because of the frequency they are emptied. Getting to your own bin and finding it full of other peoples rubbish is a pain in the arse and cleaning other people's stink out mf my bin is not my favourite passtime!

Basically, it is fucking rude to avail yourself of other people's resources for your own convenience!

Mollymalone123 · 10/08/2020 08:58

I have dogs and I take my bags home to MY bin. I wouldn’t dream of using someone else’s.Maybe lots of people do it and binmen have refused to take it or they -like I would be- are pissed off some random people are using their bins

IamMaz · 10/08/2020 09:00

Don't use someone else's bin!!!

PARunnerGirl · 10/08/2020 09:01

I live very close to a popular walking route and this is a real annoyance for me! I have no dogs, no kids and nappies and so there should be no shit in my bin! If one of these bags bursts, I’m the one that needs to clean it! It’s either selfishness or ignorance.

I don’t think the sign is correct though and the farm owners should just have written that they don’t want dog poo in their bins.

Two wrongs don't make a right. Obviously no one should be littering at all, and certainly not leaving dog poo lying around either unbagged or, worse and incomprehensibly, bagged.

But neither should people be using other people's bins. Regardless of who they technically belong to, the householder or business is responsible for their correct usage and cleanness.

If you don't mind people using your bins then by all means put a sticker on them to that effect but don't assume it should be equally acceptable to others.

SimonJT · 10/08/2020 09:16

@QweenMama

Just put it in the bin. It's not like they're recording you? Is it against the law?

Who wants to walk home with dog poo anyway. That's unhygienic

So you would be happy for me to put three dog poos in your bins everyday?
CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/08/2020 09:19

Who wants to walk home with dog poo anyway. That's unhygienic You're kidding, right? Or not a dog owner?

It's an every day occurrence for every dog owner. No bin? Bag it and take it home, like all of the rest f your rubbish.

If you think carrying it home is unhygienic don't get a dog!

hiredandsqueak · 10/08/2020 09:19

I wouldn't use somebody else's bin it's really rude. I do put it in the public litter bin though if there isn't a dog waste bin around. They seem to be emptied daily around here and it seems to be pretty common as there are always poo bags in them.

Namechangearoo · 10/08/2020 09:22

I don’t think the bin men are the ones who won’t take it (they empty our bin that’s full of dirty nappies, dirty rabbit litter and dog poo!) but whoever has put up the sign is obviously using that as the reason. Don’t use other people’s bins for anything!!

TheMumblesofMumbledom · 10/08/2020 09:24

You shouldn't be putting anything in someone else's bin let alone a bag of shit from your dogs arse.

I get absolute bin rage if anyone puts anything in my bin, it's mine, take your manky apple core or empty crisp packet to a public bin.

CarolVordermansArse · 10/08/2020 09:49

Pooh is a bear.

It is likely that the emptying of the bin is charged for at a different tariff to regular bins and possible that the amount of poo is causing a problem. Aside from the stink. Someone put one poo bag in our bin once and the stink was horrendous, poor dog. Maybe it is because of the stink that they don't want it being used as a poo bin.

Derekhello · 10/08/2020 09:51

It is disprespectful to use someone elses bins for your rubbish, let alone dog shit. Take it home
Surely this is better than just leaving it behind, as we’ve seen in the last few weeks at beaches?

blacktop · 10/08/2020 09:51

You have been putting dog shit in someone else's bin and you think you have not BU Confused

Take your shit to either a proper dog poo bin or home to your own bin. Other people's bins are not for your convenience. Cheeky Fuckery.

HexyAndIKnowIt · 10/08/2020 09:52

OP buy yourself a bogg bag. It’s like a little satchel you put your full poo bags in to and it keeps the smell in until you get home.

blacktop · 10/08/2020 09:54

Just put it in the bin. It's not like they're recording you? Is it against the law?

It is actually, yes.

Who wants to walk home with dog poo anyway. That's unhygienic

Well that's one of those choices you make before you get a dog. You are either prepared to deal with their shit or you are not. If you are not willing to walk home with a bag of poo then you just are not cut out for having a dog.

Bumpsadaisie · 10/08/2020 09:55

I think it's like babies and nappies. When you are changing a nappy 8 times a day or cleaning up after your dog you don't find it disgusting.

You forget that to other people to find a little sweaty plastic bag of dog poo in the top of your bin is truly revolting.

JoeCalFuckingZaghe · 10/08/2020 09:55

If we have to put dog poo in our bin it stinks! They probably don’t want it stinking it up, especially if multiple entitled dog walkers are using it. I really don’t see why you can pick it up and put it in a bag, carry it hoe long to the bin but can’t wait to take it home? If you don’t want to carry around dog poo frequently don’t get a dog.

Redhair23 · 10/08/2020 09:55

Can you imagine if several people a day did this? It’s massively selfish and inconsiderate, someone else’s bin full of dog poo for up to two weeks.

Someone did that to me and put it in my green recycling bin so I had to fish it out and dispose of it in a public bin.

Ugh I can’t believe anyone would think it acceptable.
