Dog poo in bins, aibu?

We live close to a large farm with a lot of land. It’s not a ‘working farm’, it’s quite a hippy venture and hosts (often rather noisy) camping, small festivals and gatherings. There are a few houses and caravans on the land where people live.

It has a public right of way through it and we use it to walk our dog as does every other local. We meticulously pick up dog poo and even pick up other peoples if we see it’s been left.

There are a few large (normal household refuse) wheelie bins belonging to the farm at the entrance which we put our dog poo bags in.

Yesterday there was a laminated sign stuck to the bins. It said that that the bin men will not take dog poo and it was disrespectful to expect them to and to take it home.

I was under the impression that Poo bags could be put in wheelie bins and don’t feel we’ve been disrespectful. Aibu?

How would you like someone else putting their shit in your bin? Your contempt for this community radiates from every word. If it was a beautifully kept, gentrified place you wouldn’t dream of it, would you? Take it home and put it in your bin.

ekidmxcl · 10/08/2020 10:09

This is the reason I get my wheelie bin in ASAP after it’s emptied. Because I don’t want randoms putting dog shit in it.

Putting dogshit in other people’s wheelie bins is vile. It stinks really really badly especially when heated in a plastic bin. Since those bins are probably collected fortnightly at most, yabvvu. The smell when opened is enough to make you vomit. It definitely is very disrespectful.

Also, when bins don’t get emptied, I lift out my (clean) sacks of litter, put them in the car and take them to the tip. Can you imagine getting one out with a bag of dogshit stuck to it? 🤮 Some people keep their bins clean by never putting atuff in that isn’t properly bagged (dog poo bags do not count as proper bagging). I am not surprised they are truly fucked off with you.

ekidmxcl · 10/08/2020 10:10

Ask your council for a dog shit bin instead of helping yourself to facilities belonging to a household or business.

LakieLady · 10/08/2020 10:19

I always take it home and put it in my own bin if I can't find a dog poo bin. It's one of those "imagine if everyone did it" things imo. The farm bins would soon be loaded with poo!

That farm sounds very similar to one near me. Is it in Sussex, by any chance?

Iwantacookie · 10/08/2020 10:25

Sounds like there needs to be more public bins or dog pooh bins. Can you not speak to the farm and ask them about extra bins etc. They may be happy for you to use just one or may be able to light a fire under the council to get one put in.

Lazypuppy · 10/08/2020 10:28

You can't use other peoples household bins Shock

wink1970 · 10/08/2020 10:29

Well done for picking up after your dog, many people don't.

devildeepbluesea · 10/08/2020 10:30

I used to live at the end of a lane and people would put their dog poo in my bin. It was disgusting, stank to high heaven and the binmen left them often. We put a padlock on the bin in the end. Just use a fucking public bin or take it home.

WitchQueenofDarkness · 10/08/2020 10:30

Some commercial waste contractors won’t take dog poo but I can’t believe that you feel you can use the farm’s bins. There is a similar farm set up by me but I wouldn’t dream of putting my dog waste in their bins. You have right of way over the land but no right at all to use their bins

BashfulClam · 10/08/2020 10:31

They have requested that you don’t do it so the nicest course is not to do it.

itsaratrap · 10/08/2020 10:33

Please don’t put it in other peoples bins. If that bin happens to be empty and the unsuspecting owner drops a bag of household rubbish on top and the poo bag splits, the result is extremely unpleasant to clean up.

Horrible. Just don’t.

rosiejaune · 10/08/2020 10:35

I would put it in a street bin, but not someone else's wheelie bin. Although they still belong to the council just the same, if they are domestic ones.

I do put recycling in other people's bins though, if they are on the street at the time. But that is not like dog muck. And the council doesn't refuse to empty over-full recycling bins, unlike rubbish bins.

ExclamationPerfume · 10/08/2020 10:39

You have been massively disrespectful. They are their bins not for everyone's dog poo. Find a litter bin or ring the council and ask them to put a dog poo bin there.

Laaalaaaa · 10/08/2020 10:39

Aw looks like someone’s not coming back after being told how ridiculous she’s being.
Say your driveway was set up in a way that your bins sat at the edge would you be happy with every Tom, dick and Harry using your bin for their rubbish? Shit or not. Highly doubt it.

AuntyPasta · 10/08/2020 10:42

You can’t be this entitled. You must be on a wind up. I preferred the staring poodles troll.

Byronsmummy · 10/08/2020 10:45

@HexyAndIKnowIt - nice idea but the name (bogg) is a bit unpleasant Grin.

NoWordForFluffy · 10/08/2020 10:46

I can't believe you think it's acceptable to put your dog poo in somebody else's residential bin! 🤦‍♀️

Take it home with you!

badacorn · 10/08/2020 10:50

Don’t do it. Would you want your personal wheelie bin to be the bin for all the dog turds in the village? Do you think that could get a little unpleasant?

Put it in a public bin or your own bin. Contact the council and ask for a dog crap bin to be put up somewhere convenient.

HexyAndIKnowIt · 10/08/2020 10:51

Yeah I'll give you that 😂
There are other varieties on Amazon that work the same that are probably less 'boggy', but I went with that one as I have one and I know it works.

NameChange84 · 10/08/2020 10:52

Ughhhhh. People used to do this to me. Enter my driveway and put their dog poo in everyday. I don’t have a dog. I don’t want to deal with dog poo stinking my bins out and...seeing it seemed to be the same woman twice a day (so 28 dog bags of dog shit in there by bin day) seemingly she didn’t want HER dogs poo stinking out HER own bins. I got a bin lock and she started tossing the bags outside my front gate...so I’d dispose of it. I didn’t as it wasn’t my shit to deal with but the stench especially in summer was unbearable. She stopped when I photographed her doing it and reported her to the council for fouling.

Have some respect and deal with your own dog’s shit. It’s a piss poor thing for another human being to do to dump it in someone else’s bin. Really pathetic and disrespectful.

ToastyFingers · 10/08/2020 10:53

Revolting. People put dog poo in the shop bin where I work, despite there being a poo-friendly council bin roughly every 50 feet throughout the High Street. The company that take our waste won't take dog shit, unsurprisingly, and its often not even in a proper bag, just picked up in a napkin and dumped. If you have a dog, it's shit should be your problem to dispose of, either by putting it in a designated poo bin or taking it home with you.

LonelyFromCorona · 10/08/2020 11:01

How would you feel if someone put multiple bags of their dog poo in your bins per week? Would it bother you? What if they sometimes split open and you ended up with a stinky mess at the bottom?

Clymene · 10/08/2020 11:05

@Iwantacookie

It's a public footpath on private land. It's not the council's nor the landowner's responsibility. People who walk their dogs across the land need to take their dogs' poo home. I walked for 2 hours the other day and carried 3 bags of poo for most of that time. It's my choice to have a dog
Lockdownlumpy · 10/08/2020 11:07

YABVVU. I don't have a dog. People sometimes put dog poo bags in our wheelie bin and it stinks. Why should I have a stinky bin because someone is too lazy to carry their dog poo home?
If you have a dog, you need to clear up after it and take the mess home. If you don't want to walk carrying a bag of poo, don't have a dog. Simple.
