Terrified about starting a new job tomorrow

hatesomethinchangesomethin · 10/08/2020 01:49

It's 01.43 and I start my new job at 08.30.. I'm so anxious and worried about it I feel sick. I've not worked since November last year and I've had some mental health issues I had to work through. I left my previous job because I had ptsd and was a mess. I'm so worried about tomorrow. I'm so annoyed that I've got this far and now I feel like I'm back in November. Ffs!!

You are going to do brilliantly. Go in with a smile on your face and a good attitude and everything will fall into place.

DramaAlpaca · 10/08/2020 01:53

I second that. You are going to be just fine.

Now go to bed and get some sleep. All will be well.

Sootthus · 10/08/2020 01:55

Good luck OP. You will do great. The build up is often the worst part Flowers

Purpleartichoke · 10/08/2020 01:57

First day jitters are perfectly normal. Everyone you meet at work tomorrow wants you to succeed.

Horsemad · 10/08/2020 06:33

Flowers I hope you got some sleep eventually.

Don't worry - nobody is going to expect you to know everything on your first day! 🙂

Ask questions, write stuff down if it helps and smile. It'll be ok.

Good Luck, let us know how you get on.

Ruminthebath · 10/08/2020 06:36

Good luck today! You got this job because your new boss thinks you’re the best person for it - and they’re right! Go in with a smile on your face. New colleagues all want you to do well and no one except you is questioning how well you’ll do. I know how it feels to think you’re a fraud at work so please believe me when I say you’re going to be just fine. Xxxx

DorisDances · 10/08/2020 06:42

Hope you got some sleep OP. As a pp has said, you have been selected as the best fit applicant for the role so that should give you confidence. Today isn't however about having to prove yourself it is about demonstrating a friendly approach and a willingness to learn. Smile, be interested, write things down and take your turn if there is a tea rota!

Onesnowynight · 10/08/2020 06:43

I started my job a few weeks ago after 7 years off with mental health problems . It was fine. You’ll be ok! Good luck!

pontiouspilates · 10/08/2020 06:45

Good luck OP. Take some good, deep breaths and go for it. You got this job because the boss saw that you are what they are looking for. Ask questions when you need to, be interested and smile. Tell us all how you got on later! Flowers

lifestooshort123 · 10/08/2020 07:13

I hope you slept eventually and are standing in your kitchen with a nice cuppa getting ready to go. You've done amazingly well to get this far and you'll be great. Ask lots of questions, take it slow, smile a lot and have a great first day. I find pretending I'm a method actor helps with nerves - you've landed the part of a woman starting a new job so act the part until it comes naturally. Flowers

GlassMarble · 10/08/2020 08:24

First day nerves super normal. I felt sick as a dog recently starting new job and I don’t have any MH trauma. Be proud of yourself and “Fake it ‘til you make it” for now. By the time you read this you’ll have started so it’ll all be ok Star

hatesomethinchangesomethin · 10/08/2020 08:56

I got up and I'm sat in the lecture hall waiting for the trust induction. I know social distancing is important but there's no one else here!

Runnerduck34 · 10/08/2020 22:55

AreYouSiriusLupin · 10/08/2020 22:59

What happened? Hope you are ok

EuphegeniaDoubtfire · 10/08/2020 23:00

Was it because you were on mumsnet when you were supposed to be working?

bravotango · 10/08/2020 23:03

Helpful comment above...

I'm sure it went better than you thought OP - tomorrow is another day!

BlueSlice · 10/08/2020 23:12

Today may have been a shit show, but you did it! When you have massive anxiety just turning up is a huge achievement - well done!

hatesomethinchangesomethin · 10/08/2020 23:26

@EuphegeniaDoubtfire no..
Hmm it was because the induction had been moved to next week and despite emailing them 8 times last week no one let me know, then my manager has gone on annual leave and not done an out of the office so all my emails were being ignored. Then her office has been renovated so the only number I had for her was useless, in fact switch board kept putting me through to that extension too, it was only after hours of googling I found another number for the department and found out I was meant to be there today.. absolute shit show. I've done all the online training today though

Dont put updates like that. That is just attention seeking. (I know you later explained why... but still)

Just keep breathing and try to stay positive. Things just started a bit rocky. Onwards and upwards
