To expect a self catering apartment to be clean?

More so, the toilet to not have someone else's 'stains'on it.

We have come away for a few days . I always wipe everything down anyway when we go away but I object to the toilet not being clean!

It is an air b n b and they have gone to the trouble to leave us fresh coffee and croissants but didn't clean the loo? Well, that is not strictly true. They did throw some blue stuff down it 🤷‍♀️

The bed clothes arent amazing either tbh but we bought our own thankfully!!

Different people have different idea & standards as to what 'clean' is, unfortunately. Most rented flats ive moved into are really grubby despite the 'cleaning' the agent gets done in between tenancies .

Ariela · 09/08/2020 15:31

I'd contact the owner - may be they employ a cleaner specifically and note to them that their cleaner is skimping somewhat on the job...

Tuemay · 09/08/2020 15:57

I think it is the owner that has 'cleaned'it 😬😬😬

Totally unacceptable. Aren’t Airbnb requiring owners to do extra thorough cleaning due to covid risk? Complain complain complain!

Tuemay · 09/08/2020 16:06

I would normally complain but I Don't want to make it awkward as I dont want them knocking on the door whilst we are here!

Its just takes the shine off the break!

OP posts:
allfalldown47 · 09/08/2020 16:06

We've just had a few days away in an Airbnb and it was spotless. In the info they left us, there were copies of certificates that the cleaners had got from attending some sort of intensive cleaning course.

Tuemay · 09/08/2020 16:08

That's the kind of break I always want @allfalldown47!

I dont think it is too much to ask, is it?
If I leave a bad review afterwards, will that sully my reputation and people wont accept our bookings?

We are airbnb virgins...

OP posts:
lanbro · 09/08/2020 16:09

We've got an air bnb booked in a couple of weeks, can't check in til 5pm due to extra cleaning so I'm expecting it to be sparkling!

Tuemay · 09/08/2020 16:11

@lanbro ours was 3pm which is pretty standard but I get the impression this is their only property...

Glad we are only here for a few nights!

OP posts:
allfalldown47 · 09/08/2020 16:24

Ours was a late check in too due to the deep clean.
Op it's hard with Airbnb as you're reviewed as well!

Tuemay · 09/08/2020 16:34

@allfalldown47 its unfair isnt it!

I will get my husband to open an account next time!!

@Tuemay I have used Airbnb a lot.

That cleaning level is not acceptable.
Take photos. And communicate now, the general protocol is to give them a chance to resolve it, so frame it like that. There was food in the oven in an Airbnb I stayed in a few months ago, I told them it obviously hadn't been cleaned or even checked, they gave me €40.

ASandwichNamedKevin · 09/08/2020 16:59

@allfalldown47 as long as you are factual in your review it is fine, the one I complained to recently gave me a glowing review. All the reviews of me as a guest are good and I give constructive criticism if there is any to give e.g. If I were to stay here again xyz would be useful. They may or may not take it on board but I don't sht away from it after our first disastrous Airbnb experience I learned the hard way!

Tuemay · 09/08/2020 17:14

I've already cleaned it 😬
I will know for next time...(hopefully I will never have a problem again!)

OP posts:
BrokenLink · 09/08/2020 17:37

I think you can private message your host on Airbnb so you do not have to leave a "bad" review, but you can still let them know it was not up to scratch. I would pretend you think it's the cleaner who has been slacking.

Tuemay · 10/08/2020 09:20

The owner has messaged me this morning to check everything is ok with the apartment Confused

OP posts:
Tuemay · 10/08/2020 09:33

Urgh I hate awkwardness 😬😬😬

OP posts:
abersoch11 · 10/08/2020 09:36

Please tell the owner that all was OK apart from the toilet.

BarbaraofSeville · 10/08/2020 09:36

If they've asked if everything is OK, then you have to honestly tell them that it's not.

The whole review system is pointless if no-one gives a review that reflects the actual experience.

Elieza · 10/08/2020 09:36

Just tell the truth, politely and nicely as I’m sure you would.

Blaming the cleaning company.

In reality it could be that the owner sent his son round to clean or something and he needs educated! They clearly care as they’ve contacted you.

Tuemay · 10/08/2020 09:37

Ok. I am going to be brave!

OP posts:
Tuemay · 10/08/2020 11:40

Messaged them Confused

OP posts:
Tuemay · 10/08/2020 12:43

Owner wants to come over and have a look!

Despite the fact I have already cleaned everything now, I find it intrusive. Sad

OP posts:
ASandwichNamedKevin · 10/08/2020 15:06

Can you tell them you have cleaned already as you obviously would have wanted the toilet to be clean? Say you didn't want to cause a fuss but since they asked you thought they'd prefer some honest feedback.

Tuemay · 10/08/2020 15:31

That's what I said about the cleaning and I haven't had a message back.

I think most people would clean the things that were dirty wouldn't they and not just leave them?
