To think schools should not reopen in Sept?

I think that schools should not fully reopen in September and instead be partially reopened to some years. It is just not safe enough to reopen yet. I'd say December at the latest for full reopening. If they can't reopen other smaller places, how can they reopen schools with 1000's of kids? AIBU?

I'm in Scotland we we are opening tomorrow. Watch now we get on first, hopefully it'll all go well [we will be guinea pigs].

MiniCooperLover · 09/08/2020 14:17

This can't be serious ?!? Life HAS to go back to some normality with a sense of being careful. People need to work, bills need to be paid, mortgages need to be paid. In 6 months I know of one person who was very unwell and thankfully recovered. My child needs an education! Stop deliberately taunting.

Didthatreallyhappen2 · 09/08/2020 14:18

Do you have DC in crucial exam years OP?

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 09/08/2020 14:18

Kids have to go back. It’s damaging their mental health and they will miss so much.

SusanFrimp · 09/08/2020 14:19

@Didthatreallyhappen2 One DC in Year 9.

Personally... YABU. They need to go back. We can’t keep them off forever!
December is in the middle of the flu season so people would cry out “wait till spring!” If that happened.
Rather they closed things like pubs personally.

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 09/08/2020 14:19

I think threads like this are deliberately taunting now.

Lockdownfatigue · 09/08/2020 14:19

YANBU but we’re in the minority here.

bigglewiggle · 09/08/2020 14:20

Why not add this to one of the many threads about it that are already established?

As you're here, out of interest how old are your kids and what's your work / childcare setup?

chargeorge · 09/08/2020 14:20

we are working so hard to keep the students in their own bubbles within school but the problem will be that they will all be mixing with other people out of school. As a teacher I'm not sure how its going to work but we're told that it will by the government so we have to go ahead and do our best - just check that the school are working to your satisfaction before your child returns

SusanFrimp · 09/08/2020 14:20

@Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches I'm not saying keep them off forever, I'm saying not all at once with 1000's of kids. Like 2 year groups in at a time.

Living on the south coast and seeing the number of families and children on the packed beaches I would think they would be safer in school.

EuphegeniaDoubtfire · 09/08/2020 14:21

Where the fuck are they going to go, then? Mine starts reception in September. How will I work if he can't go? He will no long have a nursery place!

SorrelBlackbeak · 09/08/2020 14:22

If you feel really uncomfortable about it you can deregister your child and home educate, but the next year or so is going to be disrupted enough anyway, don't deprive other children of what education they're able to receive.

mbosnz · 09/08/2020 14:24

I've got a year 10 and a year 12.

My eldest has already been comprehensively shafted by the virus, and most likely the bastarding government too, in terms of GCSE's. I want all our kids education to be prioritised, second only to containment of the virus.

They need to get a real education, not the cobbled together, fragmented version, that is even more disparate on the basis of what schools can provide than usual, that they're currently suffering. (No reflection here on teachers, who in my experience, (not talking for anybody elses) have been fantastic in doing their very best under very trying and unique circumstances).

If you don't want your kids to go back, well and good. For myself, and my kids, I'm prepared to risk it.

SoupDragon · 09/08/2020 14:25

I agree.
PicsInRed · 09/08/2020 14:25

How about schools open, and the minority who disagree just deregister their children and homeschool?

You have a choice, don't attempt to remove mine.

mbosnz · 09/08/2020 14:26

And I really feel for the teachers, and all other faculty members. It must be very difficult and worrying for you.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 09/08/2020 14:26

Home school your cherub and shut up whining
And post threads like this in the coronavirus section so we can hide it
Ffs
It's too ducking hot for this

Gobbolino7825 · 09/08/2020 14:26

And who do you propose educates my 6, 8, and 10 year old while my husband and I work full time OP?

What research have you done to suggest it’s not ‘safe’? The risk to children and young people is tiny. In my opinion, it should always have been a priority to keep schools open to all children over everything else.

They are the future doctors, scientists, teachers and they are being massively screwed over by this situation. It cannot continue.

OverTheRainbow88 · 09/08/2020 14:27

How would they decide which year groups? And what would the working parents do?

Feel free to keep yours home if you wish!

LimitIsUp · 09/08/2020 14:27

I'm with Boris (never thought I would say that) Pubs, restaurants and shops should close before schools

Hobnobswantshernameback · 09/08/2020 14:28

How many more of these nonsensical threads do we need?
If it ain't schools it's masks
Op lock yourself and your child in till doomsday and leave the rest of us to get on

Waxonwaxoff0 · 09/08/2020 14:28

YABU. My DS needs to be back at school full time as he's an only child and hasn't learnt anything at home, I need to work outside the home and he's not old enough to stay home alone so part time would not work for us.

Life cannot stop for a virus that is mild for the majority of people.

SusanFrimp · 09/08/2020 14:28

@Gobbolino7825 I just don't understand how September is the magic month where it's all safe. The virus cases have been rising recently.
