To be scared on the house on my own...(Lighthearted to cheer myself up)

Why is it when DH is out for the night I go from relishing a night (the TV) to myself but then end up... keeping all the lights on (well known fact that serial killers dont come to houses lit up like a Christmas tree)... listening for noises (I even do the quick spin round to where the noise is as if I'm going to catch someone... would shit oneself if I did)... checking the doors a hundred times (once more for luck!)....

Where does all the noise go?! I can literally hear my stomach digest the brownie I just comfort ate!

And the dog is in on it too ffs... hes all barking at nothing and staring into space (what the fuck does he see?!).. my new build is definitely haunted isnt it?! Shock

Anyone else this mental???

I’m exactly the same!! I’m so paranoid someone is in my house even though I know there isn’t!!

bettydaviseyes1 · 08/08/2020 23:41

@AJB120 do you check rooms?? I'm torn between checking then finding said serial killer and not checking then being murdered in my sleep... why do I have to have to have an overactive imagination?!

I thought I was the only one! I even check underneath our bed!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 08/08/2020 23:47

Get a dog if you are scared of being alone at night. My Chihuahua has exceptional hearing and I feel v safe if he's quiet. If anyone came near our house he would know. The problem is hes 4lb wet through so wouldn't be any use Grin

bettydaviseyes1 · 08/08/2020 23:48

@Kitten9 nooo I havent checked under the bed and I'm on it!!! Now I cant get down to check because my ankle will definitely get grabbed by whatever's underneath

I'm the same! It's called autophobia. I used to be worse, I can actually go to the toilet when home alone now. I have a hunting knife with me at all times. And listen to every noise, look out the windows constantly. DH went to visit his bro yesterday middayish, I haven't actually slept yet, think I dozed off for an hour in the middle of the day today.

I've always had it, I also have it when everyone is asleep to a lesser extent. When I was young my mum left me home alone and I got so scared I actually went and sat on the street for her to come home rather than stay in the house alone.

happinessischocolate · 08/08/2020 23:49

😂

Nottherealslimshady · 08/08/2020 23:50

I also booby trap doors. Put a glass on hotel door handles. Prop something up against a door so it falls when the doors open. It's about being on high alert constantly so I can defend myself against an invader. I've always feared invaders since being a toddler.

bettydaviseyes1 · 08/08/2020 23:50

@PrincessHoneysuckle my shih tzu is not at all helpful! Staring into space and randomly barking at nothing... or is it nothing? Hes freaking me out! I feel like hes scared too! We are two chickens!

I've just got in after a night out, it's weirder out there than at home, kebab shop was shut, took half an hour to get a taxi and as for the pub I've had more fun at a wake

AlwaysLatte · 08/08/2020 23:50

I'm the same! House is pretty isolated and 400 years old, it feels much very different when I'm home alone.

AlCalavicci · 08/08/2020 23:51

I have just heard my elephant kitten jump of the bedroom widow sill,
looked up to see him fast asleep in his bed . WHAT THE HELL MADE THAT NOISE ?

BluebellsGreenbells · 08/08/2020 23:51

Get a dog if you are scared of being alone at night

She said she’s got one

bettydaviseyes1 · 08/08/2020 23:52

@Nottherealslimshady but that would only serve to waken me and alert me to my impending doom! No thanks, I'd rather get serial killed in my sleep!

I do this too! Glad it's not just me
Krazynights34 · 08/08/2020 23:53

Ah dogs bark at their own farts!!!
There aren’t any serial killers out to get you!!
Maybe a crazy escaped lunatic from a Victorian asylum 😂😂

mellowww · 08/08/2020 23:53

Omg I had the same last night - DP away for a few days, daughter at sleep over - yes dog barking at nothing too!!! In the end I literally decamped to step daughter! Couldn't face the terror if I potentially heard a noise in the night!!

bettydaviseyes1 · 08/08/2020 23:53

@AlwaysLatte 400 years old? Deff haunted! Do you know the history?

OP posts:
bettydaviseyes1 · 08/08/2020 23:56

@Krazynights34 I hope you get a power cut... and the doorbell rings but no ones there... and someone calls you and asks what your favourite scary movie is... and all the other horror movie cliches! Wink

I’m with you OP.
I know where the knife is, even though it’s often said that domestic weapons often get used by the perps.
That’s apart from all the sinister faces that might appear at the window. I don’t close curtains because I won’t be able to see the villains.
When DH is at home... life is fine.

bettydaviseyes1 · 09/08/2020 00:00

@mellowww what's with that?! Mine has literally just kept off the bed running barking at something... maybe he realises his brave parent isnt here and he thinks hes gotta be the hero? Hope he goes for the ankles...

There is definitely a banging outside :( it sounds like a door banging in the wind! I'm not going outside to check!

Just don't watch the film invisible man.

m.imdb.com/title/tt1051906/

I just did and half way through remembered that I hate being home alone and this freaked me out even more! Both my
Dogs bark at everything and nothing, luckily my husband doesn't go away for the night very often.

qwertyuiop098 · 09/08/2020 00:05

I get this and I absolutely hate it. Scared to look in mirrors in case there’s someone scary behind me. Hang on in there!

bettydaviseyes1 · 09/08/2020 00:14

I cant brush my teeth because my electric toothbrush is too loud I'm scared I wont hear someone approaching! Also scared to go downstairs get a glass of water.... murder or dehydration are my fates
