I am a foreigner in the UK but been living here for over 12 years. Still don't understand why my british neighbours are so not friendly no offence but I would chat for various topics when I meet withother non native neighbours but british never talk or even greet much is it that they just don't like us or other reason ?Hmm

Some people are friendly and some are not. It's the same everywhere.

VainAbigail · 08/08/2020 13:54

It’s not exclusive to Britons! It happens everywhere.

Summerdayss21 · 08/08/2020 13:54

I try not to chat to my neighbours too much OP, I’m polite if they want to make small talk but don’t want to get too close if I’m completely honest. Don’t take it personally - I don’t dislike any of them - it’s more about me. Everyone is different.

I think it's something we have lost in this country , in the sixties when I was a child most people chatted a lot .

KingOfDogShite · 08/08/2020 14:15

We’re really friendly with all our neighbours where we live now. The neighbours at our old house were always horrible! We moved a mile!

Freddiefox · 08/08/2020 14:16

I really think it depends where you live and how close in proximity you are to each other.

I am such a chatterbox - I introduced myself to pretty much everyone around me when we moved to our new house. I've made loads of friends. My neighbour and I are always chatting over the back garden fence. It is sad that more people don't do this 😣 Obviously many people will have social anxiety, health problems which make it harder. We always send a Christmas card to everyone in our close at Christmas. I take my 4 year old to personally deliver them 😂😂 She loves it! Xx

I don't talk to my neighbours. I wouldn't know or care where they're from (not that it'd make a difference) I just don't want to talk to anyone. I have (or did) people talking crap at me all day and my house is my safe space away from them all

Drumple · 08/08/2020 14:28

I don’t talk to my neighbours. I have anxiety.

2bazookas · 08/08/2020 14:41

That depends where in Britain you live. In Scotland and northern England even total strangers will greet you in passing, chat on buses and in shops, and neighbours are almost always helpful.

I’m in London and despite our reputation i’m very friendly with lots of households on our road. Unfortunately some people aren’t friendly everywhere.
