AIBU? School uniform disaster with Stevensons! UGH!

Hi,

Has anyone had a similar disaster to mine with the uniform supplier Stevensons, who are in St Albans?
My daughter is starting secondary in September and Stevensons are the sole uniform supplier. In July they sent an email round saying that if they didn't have our paid up order by 17 July, they could not guarantee uniform in time for the start of school in September. Which I thought was pants, but I ordered anyway, to the tune of £500. Stevensons sent just a couple of items, saying that the rest were backordered. But they kept all the money, even for unshipped items. Some of the things didn't fit, so I sent them back right away and ordered new sizes. They took payment for those as well, but haven't issued any refunds. So right now, Stevensons are holding upwards of £800 of mine and I have about half of the school uniform that my daughter needs.

They said that if they refund me for the items that are out of stock, I will lose my 'priority' to receive them ahead of the school term, although they are not guaranteeing it at all.

They also said that the returned items they have are all in one big room and they have't had a chance to deal with them yet.

AIBU in feeling that this is not an ethical way to do business? Anyone else having something similar going on?

I have always found Stevensons very good.
I suspect they have been hit by supply / throughput problems due to Covid.
The school will just have to be flexible. (Which I know won't help your DD, but you are unlikely to be the only ones in this position.)
