How was the BBQ? What did you end up serving?

@boreda11

I hope the guest list is only from one other household.

Fruit salad or just plain old strawberries with optional cream is lovely in this weather.

I've found a trick to make everyone comment on how lovely the fruit is, is to dress it with 1/2 cup of lime juice and as much honey will dissolve. Makes the fruit lovely and sweet and adds a really fresh tang.

Big old bowl of Greek Salad always goes down well too, and looks really beautiful and colourful on the table.

Cucumber halved, deseeded (too watery otherwise), and cubed
Cubed bell peppers
Add a little bit of really finely diced red onion.
Green and black olives
Dress with olive oil and oregano
Then add crumbled feta cheese

I serve a little bowl of cherry tomatoes on the side as it seems to be about 50/50 whether people like them added or not.

I love trout cooked on the bbq, we used to have a fish-shaped basket thing for cooking and turning, need to get another.

We have been bbqing a lot this summer. DH loves sausages so we usually have them. We also love halloumi skewers, m&s does nice ones with chilli or pesto. Tomorrow we are having pork on the grill marinaded in a Chinese style marinade (don't ask what's in it as he's doing it!), And some courgette slices on the grill. Side of tomato salad, and maybe something else.

For pudding I love grilled fruit. Some, like pineapple, you can put right on the BBQ, but some are better in foil.

It's to much faffing about doing multiple meats, I just chuck a lamb or half a pig on the spit and then come back a few hours later when it's ready.

Only on MN 😹*

Not just MN😂 We used to do this. But we return more often to pour beer over the suckling😁 De-fucking-licious

Whilst the rest of us eat sausages like peasants. 😂

I think il be having a word with DH today about a spit roasting arrangements.

Yes, superpixie, otherwise that might sound like a surprising turn of events to him. Depending on his preferences, he might want a celebratory BBQ afterwards.

I usually get beef burgers (best quality you can get), brioche buns, and cheddar/blue cheese slices, lettuce, red onions and gherkins so people can build their own burgers, I normally do also pulled pork in the slow cooker and make some apple sauce. Soft white rolls for that. Veggies wise I normally do kebabs with halloumi, courgettes, red onion and cherry tomatoes, and baked corn cobs with lime and chilli and some nice salads, taboulleh, summer slaw etc. There's a really nice recipe for slaw on BBC good food.

CorianderLord · 11/08/2020 18:09

I usually do burgers, hot dogs with buns, sauces and onions.

Then some marinated chicken or pork belly.

Plus a big salad with dates, almonds, lots of veggies and salad leaves. Option of three dressings.

Potato salad and pesto pasta.

Always fills people up
