Posting for traffic:

Hosting my first bbq on Sunday, I need to go out tomorrow and get all the food. Can anyone help me with recipes or items that are must haves. Thanks Grin

Chicken wings marinated in garlic, ginger, paprika and ghee is a winner here.

Littleposh · 07/08/2020 19:59

Monkfish kebabs, strawberry and basil salad with balsamic vinegar, pitta breads filled with cheddar/cheddar and red onion/chilli cheddar. Cheesecake for dessert or a summer trifle with plenty berries and white chocolate mousse

Username7521 · 07/08/2020 20:07

Before I can answer we need to know- gas or coal?
What is your set up? How much clearance do you have in your lid? If coal what type of coal is it (so the light bags burn hot and quick, so full briquettes burn longer and more even)
You can do an entire chicken with a beer can up his bum. It’s amazingly tender...
If not, marinade something. Chicken overnight or lamb.
Remember different cooking times.
Couscous salad with roasted sweet potatoes and cherry tomatoes with a little olive oil, salt and pepper.
Always garlic bread.

LakieLady · 07/08/2020 20:11

Pm'd you, @mbosnz.

Check your insurance is up to date before you make it though. Wink

mbosnz · 07/08/2020 20:13

LOL, thanks lakielady! I'll get everyone to sign waivers. . .

TheSoapyFrog · 07/08/2020 20:29

I like to make burgers - mince, red onion and seasoning and then either stuff with cheddar or stilton or mix in some jalapenos.
We also have sausages, chinese pork chops, minted lamb burgers and salt and chilli pork belly strips.
I usually do a Greek salad, curly fries and corn on the cobs and serve with brioche buns.
We're looking at doing some fish on the bbq soon.

Pinchmybun · 07/08/2020 20:39

I would be getting to the supermarket first thing tomorrow OP. With the weather being so good you’ll be lucky to get everything from your list from one place.

Prep and tidy as much as you can tonight.x

itsaratrap · 07/08/2020 20:42

Hallouni please, glue if olive oil and a bit or rosemary. Then bbq pineapple, please. Bit of brown sugar and cinnamon and a splash of rum or coconut liquor with a dollop of vanilla ice cream.
Hungry now 😁

itsaratrap · 07/08/2020 20:43

Glug, not glue!

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 07/08/2020 20:46

biscuitcat · 07/08/2020 21:01

I'm having a BBQ tomorrow - making burgers to have on nice buns, halloumi, aubergine and courgette (maybe with some kind of pesto sauce), corn on the cob, green salad with a really garlicky dressing, and German potato salad (I can't stand mayo)

You can't go wrong with a pavlova for pudding! Though tomorrow I'm making a cherry-almond pancake thing with vanilla ice cream

Asj0405 · 07/08/2020 21:37

Ohh do you mind me asking how you make your chicken satay @BobFleming? I love the stuff but my last attempt at making it didn't go very well Blush

Zilla1 · 07/08/2020 21:40

@lakielady, I'd welcome a PM with a recipe too, if possible, Always looking to improve.

Thank you.

Cavagirl · 07/08/2020 21:41

Oooh this is perfect timing. We're having one tomorrow. I've excitedly bought two things I'm now deliberating what to do with - whole seabass (some kind of overnigbt marinade??) and aubergines. Any suggestions very welcome!

Last few times we wrapped aubergines in foil and baked them to mush, then added yoghurt, olive oil, garlic, coriander and lemon to make an amazing dip. Wondering if I can skewer them with other veggies this time, and if so do they need a marinade? 🤔

@BIWI I've made your dressing for the halloumi! Looking forward to it!

The rest of the massively overcatered bbq is homemade burgers, sausages, chicken & lamb kebabs, homemade burger buns, and various salads I'm still undecided on. Probably involving the ridiculous courgette oversupply we've developed.

And Delia's pavlova for dessert, never fails!

Need to try not to drink wine all day and actually remember to drink water in this heat!

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 07/08/2020 21:44

My fav bbq side is three raw asparagus wrapped in a slice of streaky bacon and cooked on the grill until bacon is crispy.

BobFleming · 07/08/2020 21:44

Asj0405 it's this mix which has a seasoning and a sauce. Used it for years and it's fab. You need coconut milk to make it

GlassMarble · 07/08/2020 21:52

My fave BBQ cheat is to slow cook a joint of beef beforehand. Shred it and parcel it all up in foil with a drizzle of good BBQ sauce (or sauce of your choice). Then refrigerate and when it’s needed reheat on the BBQ in the foil and let people help themselves to tasty shredded beef. Yum, easy and little clean up thanks to the foil.

Chubbalubs · 07/08/2020 22:01

My go to is
Sausages
Burgers
Chicken & pepper skewers
steaks
Chicken legs
Flavoured chicken steaks
Coleslaw
Potato salad
Rolls/buns
Salad
Crisps

pandora206 · 07/08/2020 22:11

Last thing I cooking on the barbecue was Charcoal Roasted Pork Loin (from Mark's Daily Apple website). It took a while but was easy once it was roasting, and it was really delicious. It's useful to have a meat thermometer to check when it's ready.

I agree that cooking multiple meats is a challenge, particularly sausages which I've always found to be tricky.

Asj0405 · 07/08/2020 22:41

@BobFleming thanks, I've ordered some looking forward to trying that! Smile

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 07/08/2020 22:54

Just reading through the thread after posting mine (chicken drumsticks and kebabs and I was being posh there lol, it's usually just sausages and burgers round here)
then see there's yummy stuff like strawberry and basil salad and white chocolate mousse, we can see who the naice posters are lol Grin

Hermano · 07/08/2020 23:00

If you don't mind sharing it further @lakielady I'd love your recipe too. No problem if you can't be arsed with a hundred pms, but I hope you don't mind me asking

Punkyfish3000 · 07/08/2020 23:32

My go to list is typically from here, not saying all things have to be served:

Mains: Burgers, sausages (including frankfurters), chicken pieces/wings, kebabs, beer can chicken. Don’t forget burger/hotdog rolls.

Sides/toppings: salads, sliced tomatoes, coleslaw, potato salad, hamburger cheese, pulled pork/brisket (to go on burgers and hotdogs), caramelised onions, French bread/cornbread.

Throw in veggie burgers/sausages and pulled jackfruit for veggies/vegans if any are expected.

S’mores (toasted marshmallows sandwiched between chocolate digestives) for afterwards.

Punkyfish3000 · 07/08/2020 23:34

PS forgot corn on the cob too in ‘sides’, top each cob with a tsp of butter then wrap in foil and chuck straight on the bbq, works every time!

cantstopsinginglittlebabybum · 08/08/2020 00:02

We're having a bbq on Sunday.

Burgers, hotdogs, salsa, salads, kebabs, coleslaw, potato salad, sweetcorn, buttery onions, rolls for everything, different relishes, sliced onion/lettuce/tomato, sliced and grated cheese.
