To ask why period is over a week late (aside from obvious!)

Hi all. Posting here for traffic really. I know there is a women's health board but it isn't very active.

Periods are normally very regular, but this months is over a week late! I did get the tiniest amount of pinkish blood (as in not enough to even need a pad) on Sunday, and a tiny amount of brownish blood on Monday and Tuesday, but nothing since.

I've ruled out the obvious and taken several pregnancy tests, all negative. See attached pictures of the most recent test I took yesterday.

I'm in my mid 20s, no known health problems, not on any hormonal contraception. What is going on?! I have been a little stressed but not terribly so. This is the first time my period has been this late, aside from when I was pregnant. Is it worth seeing my doctor or just waiting and seeing what happens?

No other symptoms. I do feel a little sick but I'm sure that's just me psyching myself up 😂

Thank you Smile

How can anyone on the internet diagnose you?

Periods can be late sometimes, if you're concerned you should see a doctor.

I'm not asking for a diagnosis per se, more asking if anyone else had experienced this and what the outcome was.

If it‘a just a one off this month I wouldn’t worry too much about it, rather than part of an irregular pattern.
But if you’re worried about it best to book a GP appointment.

Mine was a week late last month. Having been like clockwork for around 4 years (post birth and BF). On time this month. I think it's just 'one of those things' if it's a one off.

This happened to me recently ( I have a very regular cycle). When it was 2 weeks late I went to the GP as was so unusual, they did an HCG blood test to rule out pregnancy (which it did).

My period came almost 4 weeks late eventually - GP speculated it could have been a pregnancy that failed very early on and so didn’t show on a pregnancy test but disrupted my cycle. But they were definitely guessing!

Has never happened again....

Stress or weight fluctuation - up or down - can lead to irregularity in your usual cycle.

Nookable · 07/08/2020 18:25

Possibly weight gain or loss? Or too much exercise or stress? Could just be random

If there's no other symptoms it's not recommended to visit a doctor until you've missed 3 in a row so not a concern yet, all you can do is wait.

Have you lost any weight recently? When I lost a fair bit of weight it really messed up my cycle despite being on BC

CastleCrasher · 07/08/2020 18:27

It's happened to me a few times over the years (I'm late 30s) but usually I'm like clockwork. The causes Ive put it down to in no particular order - stress, illness, just one of those things. If it's a one off, no need to worry

IsThisTheKrustyKrab · 07/08/2020 18:43

Thank you all. I HAVE lost a little bit of weight recently, but not an enormous amount (1.5 stone since January).
