To ask you what bed would go with this?

Sorry posting for traffic.

I want to do one bedroom with this purple damask wallpaper and white woodwork. But what bed would go with this?

I know dark wood would, like say a mahogany sleigh bed but that just feels a bit old person ish? Or would it look classic? What else do you think would work? Thanks.

I’d go for a grey velvet fabric

Something like this?

Unless you live in the house in the photo, this could look pretty dated.

My primary criteria for choosing a bed is - is it comfortable to sit & read a book. So grey fabric headboard could be good.

HollowTalk · 07/08/2020 15:59

I'd go for something like this in ivory or white. I have an IKEA version of this.

MaskingForIt · 07/08/2020 16:21

I have a half-sleigh with a purple wall and it looks fab, even if I do say so myself.

Fabric beds are dust-traps and general absorbers of dirt and smells. I would avoid.

If you're going for the full stately home feel then got to be a four poster surely. And if you're not trying to look like a stately home then why are you having that wallpaper.

I would go for this www.frenchbedroomcompany.co.uk/bonaparte-french-bed

I’m going for the Georgian mansion look yes. (In a Victorian terrace). But hopefully not gods waiting room iyswim.

Thanks everyone really good ideas. Hadn’t thought of a metal frame. I do like the idea of padded velvet but accept the comment about practicality. Will have to think about that.

I just wonder if white would look a bit out of place on the bed, although it seems to look good on all the woodwork.

Thanks again.

That picks out the gold I see what youve done there!

Actually there would be a lot less white in mine as of course I don’t have the pillars so maybe a white metal or wooden bed wouldn’t overwhelm with white.

A yellow-toned wood like oak or yew would look lovely against the purple. And something quite solid, as it isn't an ethereal wallpaper:

catgirl1976 · 07/08/2020 19:24

Oooh @lidoshuffle - I have actually just bought that exact bed!

DianaT1969 · 07/08/2020 20:41

I have seen IKEA GJÖRA frame painted dark blue in a period property and it was stunning.

dudsville · 07/08/2020 22:12

I think the white is a good call but I'd steer away from iron or anything flouncy. Smooth wood plain, painted would be good and lift the look to something more modern.

WileyStyley · 07/08/2020 22:33

That’s brilliant thank you. Yes I guess I was asking how can I use this wallpaper in a bedroom but in a slightly modern way.

That needs a big dark four poster.
