To desparately want to go abroad this summer.

Hi,

I have got a very big dilemma. Since lockdown, me, huby and three kids have barely been out of the town where we live. We have done local walks etc but not had any major days out or trips away.

For the past two days, my huby has been looking online at holidays and there are some really good deals for Turkey in the first week of September. The huby and kids really want to go but I'm really anxious about it because of the current situation. I am just so worried about what may happen if someone at the hotel we stay at gets infected or if one of us gets infected. I've put my foot down and said no (in a covid free world I would have jumped at the chance), but now i feel so awful. Deep down i really do want to go but i don't know if it's worth the risk and extra stress. Also my mum would be mortified if we want so that worries me a little bit too.

Can anyone offer me some guidance please? What should I do?

If you have to quarantine on your return then your DC will miss the first 2 weeks of school.

It really seems daft to me to travel abroad unnecessarily at the moment. Well it seems daft to me to do that anyway, but right now its particularly stupid.

I don't know how old your dc are but it seems unfair of your husband to get them excited about a holiday you (the adults) haven't agreed on?

It's almost as if he knows that by involving the dc and getting them on board you're less likely to resist his plans and be "blamed" for the disappointing the children. Hmm

We have been abroad already this summer and had such a lovely time that we are off again next week. Resorts are quiet, airports are quiet, it was most enjoyable.
That said, my attitude to CV-19 is different to that of many. I care more about the economy than anything else, believing that those who need to shield should, (And be supported in doing so) and the rest of us need to get on with our lives and we are doing exactly that.
So from my perspective I’d be advising you to go and have a lovely time. I’m sure many others of a different perspective would argue the complete opposite.
