Dryrobes

AIBU to ask if anyone has a Dryrobe and if so, are they worth the money? Really want one but at £130 I'm struggling to justify the expense.

(Sorry for the boring AIBU!)

Absolutely worth the money. They are streets ahead of cheaper ones. You'll still need a woolly hat though 😂

M0mmyneedswine · 06/08/2020 22:49

Well worth it

crankanky · 06/08/2020 23:03

My son asked for one for his birthday so we got him one. It's certainly warm and cosy, but also MASSIVE and unwieldy for packing. They charge an extra fortune for a customised compression sack..We're using a sack from an old sleeping bag for now but it barely fits. Also, as it it was so expensive I'm concerned it might be stolen e.g. if left on the beach during swimming and the like.

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 06/08/2020 23:24

Thanks all - I really want one so might have to invest given your feedback (but do agree about the risk of it being stolen on the beach!)

How are the sizes? Are they sized for men (so a size 12 woman would get a small?)?

Best purchase ever!! Even wear it to walk the dog on a cold wet winters night. Makes me look like a dog walking wizard though 😂

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 06/08/2020 23:48

I love that thought @Pippioddstocking

I love mine. I’m an 8/10 and have a small and it’s like a tent, but it’s supposed to be so that you have space underneath to get changed out of your swim stuff and into normal clothes.

CherryPavlova · 07/08/2020 00:21

I made ours and we use them all the time. Brilliant for changing or warming up and not changing.

Wynston · 07/08/2020 00:23

I watched a family rock up at the beach the other day all 5 had them on......i had no idea what they were wearing and then had to ask friends
We are pretty hardcore beach goers but cannot understand the use for them properly are they a towel, dressing gown or meant to act as both?? Genuinely interested??

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 07/08/2020 00:26

YES
Love mine for warming up after swimming, rowing, camping nights, rugby training, all sorts. Great quality.
I have a poncho towel I use to dry, then get dressed & get inside Dryrobe. Kids have napped under it, I've slept in it.

mozzrules · 07/08/2020 00:33

Definitely worth it. Mine was my lockdown present to myself. Essential now that all swimming is outdoors with no changing rooms and will be even more useful come Autumn and colder days. Check the size guide on their website for accurate sizing based on height and depending on how long/roomy you want it to be.

celtiethree · 07/08/2020 00:40

They are great. Would definitely recommend. Fantastic if you are caught out in the rain, changing under - particularly good if you do any kind of outdoor racing activity pre and post race .

SE13Mummy · 07/08/2020 00:44

We've recently bought something similar from Saltrock. They call theirs changing robes and I think we paid about £30/35 for the adult one, less for the child one. They're not as fancy as the actual Dryrobe but absolutely brilliant for getting changed at the side of a lake/beach or for throwing on over a wetsuit if changing isn't a priority. DH and I share our adult one as we use it to get changed under whereas DD likes wearing hers. Since we bought ours, others at the same watersports club have bought the same because they like the look and feel of them.

I guess paying £130 might be worth it if you're likely to use the Dryrobe in the winter because you are into open water/wild swimming that doesn't offer changing facilities, even in non-pandemic times. If you only need something for at the beach or at the swimming pool during coronatimes, it may not be such a good purchase.

Gotthetshirt23 · 07/08/2020 00:45

Also very interested! The price makes me Confused however I've just seen an ad for a dive version ( fourth element ) at £150

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 07/08/2020 01:02

Thanks all for the feedback - it makes me really really want one although still not sure I can justify the cost, especially as my DH and DCs would then also want one but they do sound fab!

I think I'll start saving! Thanks all!

Brilliant for camping!

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 07/08/2020 01:06

I really do want one so badly now! Need to start saving!

The robie towels are a good start - poncho towels with pockets and a good thick hood - not as versatile as dryrobe though.

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 08/08/2020 18:58

Just tried to order and they have said they'll email when in stock! Looks like they'll be back in stock in a couple of days, so hopefully will get my order placed soon!

I have a Charlie McLeod one for £85, perfect for roadside changing post-surf in grim weather.

TokyoSushi · 08/08/2020 19:17

I havd never heard of these so had to google, and now you've all alerted me to the fact that they do them, for dogs!! Grin

CMOTDibbler · 08/08/2020 19:20

I have a Charlie Mcleod one, and its been worth every penny as I do a lot of outdoor swimming. I do have my eye on a SmocSmoc though

BikeRunSki · 08/08/2020 19:23

I’ve been toying with this too OP (I currently just have a towel). Then last night went swimming in a group of 5 or 6, with everything from a towel to a Dryrobe. The guy with the dry robe was changed do much quicker than everyone else. The zip up front saved so much fading over pull-over styles. Really want one now.

Finfintytint · 08/08/2020 19:26

I made DH a towelling changing robe type thingy for his open water swimming from two £8 sun lounger towels from Aldi. He may not be the trendiest but it does the job.
