I'm hoping it could be slugs or snails, but dh is convinced it's rats. The plants are outside in our garden.

Slugs or snails. Go out after dark with a torch and you will catch them at it.

MySweatyPie · 07/08/2020 09:18

Yeah slugs or snails. Look up on youtube 'snail eating'

MrsKin90 · 07/08/2020 09:39

I think if it was a rat it wouldn't be left so in tact?

dayswithaY · 07/08/2020 10:10

Looks like teeth marks so maybe not slugs.

houselikeashed · 07/08/2020 21:55

yeah, dh thought teeth marks too. We have hedgehogs in the garden - do they eat tomatoes?

Could be squirrels, they like tomatoes.

Wifeofbikerviking · 07/08/2020 22:05

Rabbits maybe. I've got a pet one so mytomatoes live high up but wild ones or lost pets roam around eating all sorts

TheDoctorDances · 07/08/2020 22:05

Slugs or caterpillars. Try some straw around the base of the plant and the pot.

Mine only like the fancy tomatoes, I have snobby slugs.

Intruiged · 07/08/2020 22:06

My dog liked tomatoes too, would leave them half eaten before he'd go eat half another one... I think there are many contenders!

Mum2jenny · 07/08/2020 22:07

I’d guess squirrels as I found one carefully removing a pear from the tree and eating it. I’m guessing that’s why we do not get any pears!
