To think Kerry Washington will make a good Vampire?

I've just started Little Fires Everywhere (No spoilers pls) and it's intriguing. I think Kerry Washington's character must have a backstory that'll make me like her (I hope).

Anyway she has this thing she does with her mouth/face that's off-putting as she does it atleast once every minute. It's distracting and I had to come here to vent but instead of bashing her (I can't, KW is lovely), I'll just say it reminds me of what Vampires do in films. She already has the facial expression down and will make a good one.
Come to think of it, I don't know if there are any new vampire films. Haven't watched one in years.

I've seen KW in a few older films but she became well known to me from Scandal. She did this same facial thing there (can't remember the older ones) so I think this is her 'angry', 'hurt', 'crying, 'trying to be in control of my emotions' face.

Anyone else notice this?

Just thinking of it and it also reminds me of what a wolf would do when they're angry, so she'd also make a good werewolf with the expression.

What's that teen vampire/werewolf film again?

I know what face your on about and I agree - I love KW though - loved her through most of scandal although the last series I wasn’t keen on!

Userengage · 06/08/2020 19:47

Another KW fan (loved Scandal) and I know the face. I need to start LFE

Andthewinnerislucky · 06/08/2020 20:00

Oh it's just so interesting - I keep wanting to know what her deal is.

Not so keen on Reese Witherspoon but surprisingly like her character so far.

THE FACE!
It ruined that series for me, I became obsessed with waiting for the next appearance of her peculiar facial arrangements and then lose track of the plot as I complained over the top of it.

AngeloMysterioso · 06/08/2020 21:57

It’s almost a snarl, isn’t it!

geekone · 06/08/2020 22:12

I think she would make a great Aes Sedai in the WOT, maybe cadsuane Hopeful the amazon show will take off like GOT did.

emeliaxolders · 06/08/2020 22:14

Or Colin Hazledon (idk the spelling)

Beetle76 · 06/08/2020 22:40

I noticed this in Scandal and it didn’t bother me, but when I saw the same mannerism/quirk (?) again in Little Fires, it seemed unnatural and really started to bother me.

I actually felt a bit bad for getting irritated, and gave myself a lecture about being bothered by someone’s face. She can’t help how her face shows emotions, in the same way that I can’t help my natural sad face. (Even when I’m happy, I look like everyone I have ever loved is dead.)

BUT I happened to see “save the last dance” and that’s from 2001 and it really wasn’t so obvious/ hardly at all, so I do think it’s a learnt expression, rather than a natural reaction, which is why it’s so noticeable.

But talking about weird expressions, Chardonnay, in footballers wives had a similar quirk. Her “searching eyes” expression...

Yes! Exactly!

Wow! I could have typed eactly this too besides the last paragraph - have no idea Grin

I totally agree.

I have a terrible RBF (Resting bitch face)!

Mine has been modified to RMeanF, RSadF and RGrumpyF. I have them all, I can never keep a normal face.

Beetle76 · 07/08/2020 01:54

Sorry, not Chardonnay - it was Tanya In Footballers wives. In my defence, I think she used to say “Chardonnay!” an awful lot, then give the look that I was talking about Grin

It was a long time ago!

Andthewinnerislucky · 08/08/2020 10:24

@Beetle76 Still can't remember although I know the show. Sounds funny thoughGrin

@BigBirdsbird Thought I was the only one - ruins her scenes for me. Seems like she always has to 'emote' in them so I have to look at her face.

On a similar note, I found the actor who plays young KW's character very impressive with how well she mirrors KW's expressions, tone and mannerism. Thankfully she doesn't do the snarl but she does the mini version that KW also does, where you think she's about to do it but stops.

OP posts:
ConcreteUnderpants · 08/08/2020 10:38

I know exactly the face! And it was hugely annoying during LFE.
Dunno if it was me becoming obsessed with waiting for the next snarl, but it seemed to happen in every bloody shot.

dayswithaY · 08/08/2020 11:14

Scandal fan here, I know exactly what you mean. It's a very quick movement, a slight baring of her teeth, almost a twitch. I thought it was just her getting into character as Olivia Pope, who was ruthless but I've seen her do it elsewhere and it's very distracting.

Incidentally, I saw her being interviewed and she didn't do it once so maybe it's an "actor" thing? Either way, someone needs to tell her to stop.

Oh I don't know that one. Just googled briefly and it sounds interesting. Is it on prime?

Not get @Andthewinnerislucky it was due this year and is postponed (strangely). It’s a set of fantasy books by Robert Jordan and they are great.

Snugglepiggy · 09/08/2020 13:28

I know what you mean .I loved the series but found her facial expression distracting. But then I've felt the same about Nicola Walkers stop /start speech thing in the last few dramas she has been in.Waiting for it to happen. I loved The Spilt and think she's a really good actor. But once you've noticed something it's head to stop isn't it ?

Snugglepiggy · 09/08/2020 13:29

Meant hard to stop obviously !

Andthewinnerislucky · 09/08/2020 13:33

Thanks @geekone I'll look for the book.

Just finished the series so far and came to say I take this back: "Not so keen on Reese Witherspoon but surprisingly like her character so far "

Still didn't like KW's character but I get what her deal is now.

OP posts:
Andthewinnerislucky · 09/08/2020 13:38

Yes definitely @Snugglepiggy.

Didn't expect this series (LFE) to end when it did, it was getting even more interesting. Wonder if they'll have more episodes/seasons.
