NC for this.

I was looking in the bathroom cupboard this morning and noticed that the condoms usually kept there were gone. There should be a full unopened box but I couldn't find it anywhere. I have a 15 year old and obviously a DH. I haven't addressed it with either of them yet, just wanted to know what the people of mumsnet think I should do? And if I'm overreacting and there's actually a perfectly reasonable explanation?
I really don't think DH would cheat, and more to the point be stupid enough to use condoms that I knew were there, but teenager doesn't know where they're kept and they're well hidden. Advice please??

Most likely the teenager found them while having a rummage around and has taken them, either because they genuinely use them, or because they think they’ll get street cred for having them.

I assume you’ve spoken to your teen about safe sex and relationships already, but it’s worth doing so again if there are signs they are sexually active. If he is, far better that they’re using condoms than not, but since they are underage you should probably make sure their understanding of consent, safe sex and the legal age of consent is absolutely solid.

TheAquaticDuchess · 06/08/2020 11:50

Sorry, a ‘he’ slipped in there - I meant they, not sure if your D.C. is male or female

Tooshytoshine · 06/08/2020 11:54

I'd say teenager too...

They root around.

It would be idiotic if it was your husband.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 06/08/2020 11:54

If it was DH ltb. Not for cheating, but purely for the stupidity. 🤦

It's the teenager.

user1493413286 · 06/08/2020 11:55

I would ask DH if he’s moved them and if not assume that the teenager has found them and go from there.

AriettyHomily · 06/08/2020 11:55

I wouldn't do anything. Replace the box and see what happens to them.

It was 'cool' to have condoms in your purse or wallet when I was a teenager.

HollowTalk · 06/08/2020 11:56

I've never understood why someone would keep condoms in the bathroom. Why don't you keep them in your bedroom?

MatildaTheCat · 06/08/2020 11:56

YABU to think your teenager doesn’t know what’s in your bathroom cupboard. Teens can be appalling snoops. 99.999% it’s the teenager.

It’s a good opportunity to have a chat. Being responsible: good. Stealing: not so good.

Thislittlelady · 06/08/2020 12:01

Probably teenager. Have a talk. Maybe your dh knows teenager has taken them so hasn’t thought that it’s odd to you that they’re no there anymore? Or just say to dh there’s a full box of condoms missing, do you know anything about that??

BoggledBudgie · 06/08/2020 12:07

I don’t understand why you wouldn’t just go to your husband “hey, did you move the condoms?” and find out that way... Confused

FortniteBoysMum · 06/08/2020 12:11

Simple you mention it to your partner see his reaction. Then tell him it's his job now to speak to ds regarding where they went. Sounds like a father son discussion is required

OdaMaeBrown · 06/08/2020 12:12

When my dad was having an affair, he hid his condoms under the lining of his car boot.

Teenagers find this sort of thing.

Thanks, I'll probably mention it later. I don't think a father son talk will work though as she's a girl. Looks like it's my job Grin

Maybe there's not enough room with the penis beaker there ?

C'mon. It's MN

Why would you let your partner anywhere near you unless they had autoclaved themselves for an hour, showered, dried themselves on a sterile towel which they then have to burn and doused themselves in bleach Grin

ItWasntMyFault · 06/08/2020 14:46

I would assume teenager and be glad he has thought to take them in case he needs them. Better than not using them!

HollowTalk · 06/08/2020 15:04

@SerendipityJane and @doyounothavegoogle it just reminds me of that very unlikely scene in Friends where they are all fighting over a condom in the bathroom. I remember Richard in that scene was about 50 - I doubt many 50 year old guys who were dating a 25 year old woman would forget to bring condoms.

HollowTalk · 06/08/2020 15:04

Especially given he really didn't want children.

coolestmum · 06/08/2020 15:54

Just ask your DH if hes moved them, then see his reaction.
If he says no, and you believe him, ask your dd.
I do think its possibly odd the dd took the whole box and not just one though. Does she have a bf?

If she seems genuinely shocked at the idea, then its back to the DH.

If it is your DH and hes cheating, which I really hope not, he may have taken the whole box so you didn't notice just the one or two missing.
