Partner chucks anything in the recycling bin 😣

My partner Litterally throws anything in the recycling bin, anything plastic, even nappies sometimes. He just treats it like a bonus bin and I feel like I always have to sift through and then when I moan about it I’m always the bad guy who moans about everything 🤯 AIBU!?

Yup. Words like "disgusting" make it into a hectoring, crusading, shaming issue- which doesn't tend to win anyone over.

I thought this was a decentish piece in the Guardian last year www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/aug/17/plastic-recycling-myth-what-really-happens-your-rubbish . Washing your rubbish this past decade may or may not have made it any cleaner when being picked over by Chinese children.

Dinosforall · 06/08/2020 10:43

Every time my inlaws come round to babysit they chuck half-eaten sandwiches etc in our plastics bin (clearly full of clean plastic waste). I find it so infuriating (and can't say anything as they're doing us a favour).

Derekhello · 06/08/2020 10:53

If anything non recyclable is in ours the council don’t take it, this would annoy the hell out of me. Why doesnt he want to recycle, also someone has to find those nappies at they recycling plant 🤢 Laziness in his part I guess and not giving a stuff 😔

GinWithRosie · 06/08/2020 11:06

@contrmary wow! 🤦‍♀️

To be fair OP was talking about shitty nappies. That is disgusting.

TheAquaticDuchess · 06/08/2020 12:39

if a batch is contaminated it just goes to landfill anyway so what's the problem.

This is why the planet is fucked.

Gailplatt95 · 06/08/2020 12:55

I feel like I wrote this myself! Absolute fucking joke my recycling bin didn’t get emptied for 2 weeks because the stupid fuck put a plastic bag full of shite in it after I’d checked and put it out. I hit the roof!

MitziK · 06/08/2020 13:02

Our council actually did something sensible. Rather than reply upon people's ability to look at the leaflet and remember what's on it, they supplied the bins with large, hardwearing stickers telling you exactly what goes in each bin and what needed to be left separately.

Doesn't mean that twats will follow the rules, but at least they can't complain that they had forgotten what goes in each one.

Tlollj · 06/08/2020 13:29

@Brefugee I’m glad you said that I always wonder about using more water. But then if you can just sluice then out in the washing up water after you’ve done the dishes? That’s what I’m doing any way.

Brefugee · 06/08/2020 15:04

that's what we do - and i hope I'm not misremembering and that it is ok to do that.

TheMandalorian · 06/08/2020 15:10

Why do you think he does it? Because even my 4yo can put things in the right bin. Is he the type of guy who leaves his picnic rubbish behind too? Does he do it to piss you off? I couldnt live with someone who was so disrespectful.
