Primary Schools in Winchester

Hi,
Desperately seeking info before putting an offer on a house!

I'm trying to find out what Oliver's Battery Primary School is like? I've heard positives (lots of art, music, outdoor learning) but the negatives are a little worrying. I've been told it's rough and my kids need to be strong to get along there. I believe it went through a bad patch but I'm wondering if this is still the case?

Many thanks

Its Winchester.

Rough for Winchester is ultra desirable for most places Grin

I think you are being unreasonable

Can you imagine if AIBU became the 'ask me random shit' forum. Oh, hang on, it already is.

As for Winchester. I don't know. Maybe someone will pop over from the primary education page to provide a more thoughtful response.

@ListeningQuietly oh gosh, most definitely do not agree! Winchester can be lovely but I've thought some bits are rough! But I'm from Oxford so alot of other places look garbage 😂 Will have to name change now that's so outing. Good luck with your search OP.

Kormum
Even Stanmore is nicer than some of the rough bits of Oxford Wink
and the churn between the two cities is such that I doubt you've outed yourself Grin

Not that you should only look at Ofsted but it looks like they did go through a bad patch a few years ago but rated Good now.

Agree Winchester rough is very nice in most other places Grin

@CoRhona thanks :D

Winchester - even the ropey parts - is a great place to live (might be a bit biased as I grew up there). Don't know about OB Primary, but it looks to be on the up. From the sounds of the last OFSTED, it's really turned things around.

Secondary schools in the area are good and sixth form colleges even better- Peter Symonds is one of the best-regarded in the country (I loved it there). I reckon you're on to a good thing, OP - good luck!

@BettyCrockaShit thank you so much, that's very encouraging, it is a lovely little city Smile

My children went to primary in Winchester, not OB, but I echo other comments, as a whole education in Winchester is excellent. 3 very good secondary schools, and Peter Symonds is second to none
