Blatantly based on the other thread Grin

When I was 12, I won a vinyl record of Bill Cosby’s greatest hits at a raffle.

We didn’t own a record player, and I wasn’t a Cosby fan.

I asked the lady running the raffle if I could swap it for another prize but she gave me a very firm “no”. I’m still bitter.

School Xmas Fair in 1970s I got a packet of 10 Benson and Hedges cigarettes in the children’s lucky dip. I was about 7 or 8 at the time. Gave them to my grandmother for Xmas.

A door mat.

Why do raffle organisers do that? A prize should be something special. Chuck all the rest on a stall so people who want a blow torch can buy a bloody blow torch! (Yes I won one of those too...)

My daughter won a doll from a well known educational store it was an expensive doll( one I never would have been able to afford so was pleased initially ) a little worried that it didn’t have a box .just thought perhaps they had Put things in that’s boxes had become damaged in store . My daughter lifted the clothes up to turn on the crying function and there was blood on the soft body of the doll 🤢

I came second in a recipe competition years ago. First prize was an Alaskan cruise. Second prize was a framed picture of my dish! How cheap and disappointing.

TinkersRucksack · 07/08/2020 18:01

A bottle of Kirsch. Sat in my parent's drinks cupboard unloved and unwanted for about 20 years.

Spodge · 07/08/2020 18:13

A bottle of Tequila from the school tombola when I was 9.

Mir91 · 07/08/2020 18:18

Can't say anything that I've ever won was bad, and I've won a lot of stuff over the years. But some of the stuff people on here have won is hilarious

Monstermunch67 · 07/08/2020 18:29

Runner up prize in a pub quiz, pork scratchings. I'm a vegetarian.

IrishNinja · 07/08/2020 18:29

Voucher for a photo shoot - one of the ones where you get a tiny photo and pressure to spend a small fortune on additional items. We didn’t use it.

Bluewavescrashing · 07/08/2020 18:51

I've never won a crap prize. In fact I won a kids' birthday party once worth £200!it was awesome.

I work in a school and one of the tasks before the summer fayre is to sort the donations of bottles for the tombola and weed out the out of date ones. Alcoholic drinks, soft drinks, bubble bath etc, all bottles are accepted. 28 bottles were binned last year! So cheeky to donate an out of date item. Just buy a 50p bottle of shower gel.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 07/08/2020 18:55

I won a set of Tupperware cups with lids when I was 17. Mum liked them. I could have done with them 10-15 years later.

Iwanttobeanonymous · 07/08/2020 19:00

some very old magazines.

It was at a craft group I go to. Xmas party and instead of asking us to donate prizes the raffle organiser decided to declutter her own stash. Every prize was "used". I had ds with me and he won a half empty bottle of glue!

PuffinShop · 07/08/2020 19:03

A voucher for a tour of a brewery, with tasting. But I was newly pregnant and it was due to expire before the baby was born.

MsWoodentop · 07/08/2020 19:04

A fresh turkey on Christmas Eve afternoon. I'm vegetarian.

SingleHandSue · 07/08/2020 19:06

When I was about 8 or 9 I won a raffle prize that was called ‘an ice cream set’ I was very excited imagining all the delicious ice creams.

It was actually a set of pastel coloured plastic bowls and a matching scoop.

I was devastated. My mum quite liked it though and those bowls and scoop lived for a very long time in our house.

powkin · 07/08/2020 19:11

A delightful peach lampshade with tassels. The epitome of chintzy. I must have been 4 or 5 so it was around 1990 and for some reason I was thrilled and it was in my room for the next 3 years. It was truly ghastly! Think of something Hyacinth Bucket would have had in her house and you’d be spot on.

allmycats · 07/08/2020 19:13

Not me, but at a weekend event some years ago a boy of around 9yrs old won a tin of oxtail soup. His sad little face told it's own story.

SenorFrog · 07/08/2020 19:13

My Mum and Dad won a bottle of wine last year... it was open. Straight down the sink!

powkin · 07/08/2020 19:14

@Lovelydovey my poor OH got me one of those for my birthday once. I have no idea why (I think because I like make up and they did makeup and hair... man logic?). I HATE having my photo taken and hated the whole thing and cried when I saw the pictures. And yes they put SO much pressure on me it was awful, think I spent £200 because I wanted to leave. I don’t know how they sleep at night.

Leontine · 07/08/2020 19:22

I won some earrings as a kid before I had pierced ears. I had wanted them pierced for a long time but wasn’t allowed so it was a real kick in the teeth! Grin

Beanbag12 · 07/08/2020 19:46

A box of Paxo Stuffing

Mummadeeze · 07/08/2020 19:53

I won a holiday which clearly was very exciting but when I found out more about it you a) had to go on your own b) stay in youth hostels and c) ride through a large stretch of desert on a camel. I am very allergic to holidays and so weighing it up I decided to give it back and let someone else have the prize. It was probably some one else’s dream holiday but it definitely wasn’t mine!
