Blatantly based on the other thread Grin

When I was 12, I won a vinyl record of Bill Cosby’s greatest hits at a raffle.

We didn’t own a record player, and I wasn’t a Cosby fan.

I asked the lady running the raffle if I could swap it for another prize but she gave me a very firm “no”. I’m still bitter.

A 6ft fluffy yellow duck. Confused

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 05/08/2020 23:36

You can't just leave us hanging Tilly Shock that's the best thing on the thread!

Did you keep it? Please say you did so you can tell us how you got it home...

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 05/08/2020 23:39

a really naff christmas table cloth
a raffle at a summer fete
I gave it to my sister, as I nearly always spend christmas there; it turned out to be about a metre square.

steff13 · 05/08/2020 23:40

Jumper cables. I was about 7 and didn't own a car.

Alicesweewonders · 05/08/2020 23:43

Paul McCartney tickets, I didn't go.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 05/08/2020 23:43

A bottle of British sherry
better than the two thirds (or thereabouts) of a bottle of British sherry that a friend won at a village fete.

belvoirbeaver · 05/08/2020 23:44

A box of Elizabeth Shaw mint crisp chocolates. They were all mouldy and about 4 years out of date.

Tillygetsit · 05/08/2020 23:53

@FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack I was 17 and mortified! It was a posh charity do so there I was, all dolled up. My number was called, I nervously went to collect my prize and had to walk back to my seat clutching a 6ft duck's leg and trailing the stupid fat thing behind me!
My dad came to pick me up and couldn't drive for laughing. It sat in the corner of my bedroom until I left home then it mysteriously disappeared.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 05/08/2020 23:59

Not one I won but I helped out at the junior school Christmas fair one year and was given the job of sorting the bottle donations for the tombola. One of the donations was a used bottle of talc with a big poo smear on it Confused It went in the bin.

Drat123 · 06/08/2020 00:03

Not me but DS (10) won a bar of soap in a raffle last year. His friend won a toilet roll!

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 06/08/2020 00:08

@Tillygetsit Amazing 😄 That's even better than I hoped 😄😄

Ilikethedaffodils · 06/08/2020 00:10

From a tombola: a strange shaped glass bottle filled with yellow liquid. It looked like someone might have brought it home from holiday. There was no label on the bottle so without opening it no way of telling what the contents might be - olive oil? bubble bath? some exotic alcoholic drink? I decided not to investigate the contents and threw it away unopened.

Davros · 06/08/2020 00:15

Tickets to an Arsenal match.
This is a die hard Spurs supporting house. I gave them to a friend to re-raffle as she was fundraising to go to special education needs tribunal against her local authority.
A hot air balloon ride which was massively inconvenient to organise and not local so I didn't do it.

MinnieJackson · 06/08/2020 07:41

@TroysMammy my dad once got a big Natwest umbrella and still has it about 20 years later! The best umbrella he's ever had apparently Grin

@Alicesweewonders why didn't you go? I'd love that prize!

polkadotpjs · 06/08/2020 07:54

Roll on deodorant wins. The hair swung it

EThreepwood · 06/08/2020 08:19

I won a voucher for 25% off a nail sticker MLM crap based company. Paid £2 for the privilage too!
All the other items were jewelry, cake, big sets of toiletries Confused

PixieBigShoes · 06/08/2020 08:53

Top prize was a motor caravan but I won a year's insurance for one (which I didn't have!)

rivertoskateaway · 06/08/2020 09:00

At an NCT sale last year I entered the raffle. There were lots of prizes on the table including a few envelopes which the lady manning the table told me were the biggest prizes. I won an envelope! Low and behold it was a 10% off voucher for a cake shop about 15 miles away. Funnily enough I didn’t use it.

VerbenaGirl · 06/08/2020 09:03

A bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale that was two years out of date.

nevermorelenore · 06/08/2020 09:17

A catering sized tin of scotch egg. It was a long tin of off-brand spam with cooked egg through the middle. It was the late 80s and I think it had come from the school kitchen. My mum is Jewish, so it got chucked in a bin on the way home.

I've also won the Slimming World slimmer of the week hamper and it's always shit! One tin of sainsburys value tinned potatoes haunted my cupboard for years and even got moved with us for some reason.

Yokohamajojo · 06/08/2020 09:19

A small bottle of sainsbury's own brand vinegar at the schools christmas fairs drinks tombola!

antipodes1 · 06/08/2020 09:22

I won a free photo shoot but then had to pay over £100 for any prints. We didn’t attend the photo shoot.

kazza446 · 06/08/2020 09:39

I won the prestigious prize of an African snail. All the children in my child’s reception class were offered the opportunity to look after the snail over Christmas. As there was so many keen children, names were to be drawn by a raffle. Knowing my previous luck, I gladly agreed for my child’s name to be entered. (We never win anything!) Lo and behold we won the star prize and I went on to kill the snail. Found myself searching gumtree on Boxing Day looking to see if I could find another one to sneakily replace it with

antwacky · 06/08/2020 09:52

A really weird, scary neighbour insisted on giving my husband a silver plated Charles & Diana tankard as a gift. We donated it to the school Christmas fair and were very pleased when the school receptionist phoned to tell us that we had won a lovely prize in the raffle and could we collect it rather than them giving it to one of the kids to bring home as she would hate it to get damaged. I was gutted when it turned out to be the sodding C&D tankard.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 06/08/2020 10:01

@Drat123 that would have been a good prize this March/April!
