Blatantly based on the other thread Grin

When I was 12, I won a vinyl record of Bill Cosby’s greatest hits at a raffle.

We didn’t own a record player, and I wasn’t a Cosby fan.

I asked the lady running the raffle if I could swap it for another prize but she gave me a very firm “no”. I’m still bitter.

A work raffle at one job years ago. I won a plastic plant pot in the shape of a pig. It was so, so ugly

I worked for a bank and with some colleagues was invited to a PTA quiz which one of my colleagues was on the Board of Governors. We donated a golf umbrella emblazoned with the bank logo. Raffle tickets were picked out and the winners could choose their prize. The booze and chocolates went quickly and the umbrella was all alone. The last ticket was picked and I won the umbrella we donated. I've still got that umbrella nearly 20 years later.

Church raffle: a bottle of antibacterial cleaner and a pack of j cloths
Probably a coveted prize in the current climate but this was in the late 90's

Prig · 05/08/2020 22:02

Tin of beans.

A roll on deodorant... one that had been started and came with a complimentary armpit hair on the ball!! (well I assume armpit any other thought was too alarming)

It was the first prize I'd won in ages too Sad

A pair of socks in a kit to make them into a giraffe.

I once won a tube of Colgate toothpaste in a raffle. Who donates a tube of toothpaste for a raffle FFS?

OhMsBeliever · 05/08/2020 22:21

My eldest went to the same nursery school I went to in the late 70s/early 80s. He went in 2002.

They held a summer fete and a raffle. I was very excited to win a bottle of wine.

I was not so excited to see it was 1978 wine. It wasn't some expensive vintage wine (I checked) it was cheap plonk. I kept it for a bit before daring to open it - yep, it was crap, smelled of vinegar. It got chucked.

I did wonder if it was actually donated when I was at the nursery and had been sitting at the back of a cupboard since. 😂

When I was 5 I won a saucepan.
I can remember just looking at it and waiting for it to do something interesting.

A single, brown, bedside lamp. I was 9 and won the bingo at the caravan site.

Had a giggle at with the other day, they had done a raffle for something or other and the haircut and blow dry at a posh salon in town was won by one of the completely bald blokes.

Used toiletries

SerenityNowwwww · 05/08/2020 22:29

There was a bottle of some weird blue alcohol that used to pop up at the school bottle raffle every bloody year! Yes it was the same one as it was always re-donated. This went on for at least 4 years (when I first spotted it). We did win it one year.

Joans3rddaughter · 05/08/2020 22:30

Marmalade CD (oh blah de, oh blah da, life goes on oh oh, oh oh oh life goes on ......)

LegallyBrunet · 05/08/2020 22:32

An MOT. I don’t own a car or in fact drive. I gave that to my brother who had just bought his first car at the time

SamSeabornforPresident · 05/08/2020 22:33

I won one of these faux distressed 'live, laugh, love' type wooden plaque things in a tombola where most of the prizes were booze. I just handed it back in.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 05/08/2020 22:36

A giant barrel thing of 20 litres of cooking oil.

Just what every teenager dreams of Grin I think my DM donated it to the school kitchen...

SamSeabornforPresident · 05/08/2020 22:37

@sunshineandshowers21

my eldest son was really chuffed a few years ago when he won me a bottle of ‘champagne’ from a school raffle. i had to go over with him to collect it, to find out it was a bottle of lambrini 😂
I wonder if I handed that in... Grin
ChunkyKnit · 05/08/2020 22:37

Just remembered another. A ceramic duck toilet brush holder, won at a raffle when I was 7 and proudly regifted to my very stuck up house-proud mother Grin

Vouchers for frankie and bennys - after two terrible visits there I had no intention of going back even if free so passed them onto someone whose kids liked it so she could treat them

EmbarrassedUser · 05/08/2020 22:59

A set of Dad’s Army video’s. I was nine 😆

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 05/08/2020 23:03

Tombola prize last year was a 1kg bag of red lentils. Still have some lurking at the back of the cupboard.

Krieger · 05/08/2020 23:20

I once won a wok for coming second in a bridge competition. Second hand, though it didnt look heavily used. I swapped for the third place potted Cyclamen.
