Has anyone had a private Covid test? How to tell real from fake?

A relative needs a Covid test because he's entering an international sport tournament and a negative test is a condition of entry. He doesn't have any symptoms so doesn't qualify for a free NHS test. We googled private tests and there are lots on offer ranging from a few pounds to £100+ but how do we know whether it's a "proper' test or a fake? Does anyone have any experience of doing this?

I needed to get a test for my daughter (high temp at nursery). I rang the NHS test line, asked for a test, had to give name and date of birth but didn't have to tell them my symptoms, they didn't ask the reason for the test.

Honestly, they are handing tests out like sweets. Just ask for one.

I got one today for my son (drive in)- it asks do you have the main three symptoms - click no (he had other slightly odd symptoms) and it still lets you book in. I got an appointment immediately.

Ditto @Frazzled2207

Nope, but I’d pick a company that’s been around for a while and has good reviews. Is there not a local private clinic or private gp who will do it?

WrongKindOfFace · 05/08/2020 21:31

Or do as above and get a free one.

AgnesNaismith · 05/08/2020 21:32

Same as above...the ZOE app is sending people for tests just don’t declare any symptoms. The testing sites I’ve been to have been empty.

crankeee · 05/08/2020 21:32

If you fill in the online form to get a test sent to your home do you have to self certify that you have symptoms? He doesn't want to lie to get s test because on other forms he has to certify that he doesn't have symptoms.

Is the other form anything to do with the NHS? if the other forms are for his sports clubs, they arent going to see his form for getting a test. I dont even think those are sent to your GP or kept in any way. They just need your details to see if you are a real person in the UK.

Frazzled2207 · 05/08/2020 21:44

@crankeee no lying required.
Just click no for symptoms and it will get sent. Same process as for booking an appointment.

Dd2 had cold and high temp so we all got tested yesterday- results within 24 hours. Just book online.
