I love reading these type of threads and it must be over a year since the Glitch In The Matrix one which was a fab read! Must have been some more weirdness happen to MNers since then!

I'll kick off. DP works in a Care home and last weekend, whilst upstairs having delivered care to a service user, came out of his room and saw his colleague Bob at the other end of the (shortish, 5 bedrooms long) corridor and go into the bedroom at the other end. As it was the first time he had seen Bob that morning, he raised a hand in greeting which Bob returned. DP carried on down the corridor and as he reached the end, was greeted by Bob, leaving the stairwell to go into the service users bedroom. He raised a hand to greet DP as he went.

DP stopped in his tracks. He knew Bob hasn't come up, gone in and come back out again as DP has been walking down the corridor the whole time. He basically saw the same moment twice. He asked Bob about it who looked at him like he was mad and laughed. DP is not at all woo. He was baffled.

He said to me "what the hell did I see then? It was definitely Bob! Same clothes in same colours and I saw his face!" I said perhaps not a ghost.. more like a time lapse/ripple...

Anyone else?

I don’t know, but I’ve had similar a few times where I’ve distinctly heard my husband say my name and hello. Then a few minutes later he arrives back from work.

Had a horrible one the other night.

It was around 2am and DC was not back from working his late shift.

Was lying in bed semi asleep and through the window, I heard his voice shout, mum as he cried out in pain followed by hearing him cry.

I flew out of bed and looked out of the window, couldn't see anyone so I ran out side, bare foot, in my pyjamas and into the street, still couldn't see him.

Came back to bed and called him, he was fine and was literally around the corner from home.

I burst into tears.

It was such a horrible horrible feeling and I know I heard him. I didn't sleep properly after that and the horrible feeling stayed with me the whole day.

A couple of weeks after my mum died I was drying my hair one morning when the phone rang, I was running late so left it for the answering machine (landline); through the hairdryer noise I distinctly heard my mum’s voice leaving a message and finished with the words “I’m fine my love”.
I dropped the hairdryer and rushed to the phone but when I played the message there was nothing there. I did a 1471 and the last recorded incoming call was from the day before.
I know what I heard though.

Might qualify as a "ew" woo story for some lol - at our last shared house (mixture of adult DCs, us and a couple of friends) one of my Ds's had a reptile collection, and kept frozen white mice in one designated freezer drawer in the freezer in our long galley kitchen - there was a door either end and it was very long and narrow. We're not the best at keeping freezers de-iced if you know what I mean, so opening the drawers was usually quite a performance involving ice debris, colourful language etc.

I can't remember why, but I was rage cleaning the kitchen really thoroughly, and because I was in a particularly foul mood, other residents were speeding through or making tea at lightening speed and not hanging around at all.

I was working from one end to the other, so I'd done one end, all cupboards and counters immaculate, and then was doing the cooker and fridge freezer (fridge bit - I wasn't mad enough to tackle the freezer).

At one point I went to put something down on the clean and completely clear counter - and there, in full view, was a partially de-frosted and unwrapped white mouse. It hadn't been there seconds before, and although our cat was clever, he wasn't able to access the freezer. Through gritted teeth, I questioned reptile DS although he's 6'4 and hadn't been into the kitchen - I think I would have noticed - and he immediately denied having placed the rodent there - he wouldn't risk contamination of the rodent by it being unwrapped and usually would de-frost overnight in the fridge and then bring to room temperature shortly before feeding time. We checked the freezer - I had put something in earlier and moved a package of six white mice to make room (all hermetically sealed obviously) ...... and there were still six solid white mice exactly where I'd left them.

Interrogations of other housemates brought forth a variety of responses of the baffled and concerned for my mental health variety, and I was not in a mood to be trifled with that day, so a prank of this nature would have been high risk.

To this day we have no idea where the 7th white mouse came from.

When my dc were young they often joked I was a witch as I always knew when they were out and in trouble, I d just get a horrible churning in my stomach and a vision of whatever dc it was.
Back when I was a teenager we used to meet up in a group and walk from one pub to another through the city centre.
One Friday night I had a really weird feeling of impending doom and refused to go out.
A bomb went off right by where I would have walked at exactly the time I usually met my friends.
Was sat with my mum (who had told me I should go out and snap out of my mood) when it was reported live on the news.
A shiver went down both our spines and to this day I cant explain my weird mood/feeling of doom that night.

A few decades ago I worked in a small shop which sold children's/ teen's accessories and nick nacks. It had a door leading from the shop floor to a flight of stairs which then led up to the stockroom. As I was slowly coming down the stairs one morning carrying the till float, the door at the bottom sort of sprang open and a youngish girl (say 9 or 10) just poked her head and arm around the door frame, smiled widely and sort of waved gently at me before just disappearing back again. I was of course a bit startled... but the spookiness didn't fully occur to me (I guess I had a lot on my mind at the time) until I reached the door at the bottom- which was still partially open- stepped inside the shop again, and saw that the shutters were still fully closed prior to opening. I was totally freaked out and decided to open the shop immediately before I fully started the till, as I was alone! Turns out the building which housed the shopping arcade used to be joined to a school hundreds of years ago.

PracticalMagic111 · 04/08/2020 22:27

I was working at a children's home which had been around for hundreds of years, apparently residents and staff were buried in the rose garden.
I had come off a night shift and because I lived far away I stayed overnight in the accommodation above the school house as I was on a day shift the day after my night.
This was my first night shift and I walked to the door, fobbed in using my card (which tracked who had fobbed in and out) and was greeted was a young girl with red hair and a scarf round her hair, she said "hello welcome" and I walked in, I had a key to a room I was staying in but didn't know where to go so I asked the young girl (who I presumed was a member of staff, although 6:30am) and her and another indetical girl pointed towards the stairway and said "that way" in a very creepy tone. I said thank you and went to my room. Slept but couldn't shake how strange it was that they were in the building as it was so early and they didn't have ID (I was too tired to check)
Later on on my day shift I mentioned how odd this was, and the day staff said how there was no one with red hair who worked there. Someone else checked if someone had fobbed in to that building- no one had (checked due to safeguarding procedure) which creeped me out a bit. Then later on I heard someone saying there had been red head twins who had died years ago and had been buried in the rose garden. I was a little freaked out but also questioned if I had imagined this due to being so tired! I still think about this to this day.

Anouther one.
When I was about 4 years old I struggled to sleep. I for some reason has to count myself to sleep. When I would reach 10. And old lady appeared in a rocking chair in a blue nightgown and mocked me how I couldn't count beyond ten. I could literally see this woman with long grey hair.
Years after, my mother and grandmother were speaking about my great grandmother and how she used to mock and humiliate her children, they described how she wore a blue night gown and had long grey hair and sat on a rocking chair all day. I still never told them about what I saw when I was younger but what they described sounded just like oh great-great grandmother

Had one today! Was having a walk on my break with two colleagues around a man-made grassy area. Coming towards us on a windy path was a woman pushing a double buggy. She moved from the path and onto the grass (presumably to socially distance) which was all normal and fine. Except the grass is bordered by one row of trees and then there are fences so the area is completely contained IYSWIM. Well, woman with buggy steps into trees never to be seen again. I asked my colleagues if they saw her and where did she go? They confirmed they had seen her and, despite us checking, she wasn’t to be found and didn’t pop out further along.... The buggy was bright orange too so was easy to spot

First flat dh and I lived in. The atmosphere was awful but we put that down to decor etc. We had arguments about one of us moving ornaments around, unplugging the tv Confused and the worst one was leaving the electric fire on. Anyway, we started work on it, it basically needed stripped back to plaster and started again. The first day the workmen left we were lying in bed. I never forget the feeling of an "insect" crawling over my chest and then behind me, dh jumped out of bed and was white, never have I seen anyone so scared. He had seen a black face jump at him from my side of the "insect". Things never did improve and we moved soon after!

OldQueen1969 · 04/08/2020 22:49

Just thought of another one (may have posted it before but I'm getting to that age now where I often repeat myself)... Wink

A few years ago I used to help a friend out covering some Saturdays at his framing workshop / gallery for a bit of pin money.

He also ran a local badminton league and supplied shuttlecocks and other bits and bobs so I used to deal with that too.

The industrial unit was fairly modern and had two floors - badminton stuff was in a section upstairs.

One Saturday chap comes in and asks for x number of tubes of shuttlecocks and I nip upstairs..... as I reach the top I can see a large box - waist height to me - rocking from side to side, fully from one edge to the other..... and it was making no noise...... I stopped, and so did it. I rationalised that it must be empty and had fallen off the racking......so approached it to clear it out of the way.....however, it was a full box of tubes of shuttlecocks that I couldn't lift and had to drag out of the way...... I grabbed what I needed and bolted back down to my customer, gabbling away about what had just happened...... he obviously thought I was bonkers and departed swiftly......

If a full box had fallen we would have heard it as the unit was echoey and of metal construction, and as I say, it was making no noise as it rocked in front of me which is why I assumed it was empty.

Most bizarre.....

Thanks for starting the thread OP Smile I love hearing everyone's weird stories!

RoyEastmannKodak · 04/08/2020 22:54

You're welcome @OldQueen1969 .. me too. The thing I most love is that you just know most of them are genuine.. they are too bizarre to be otherwise.. eg phantom boxes of shuttlecocks for heavens sake!! Deliciously weird!

I'm looking for most recent Glitch in the Matrix thread as requested by someone above but my search thing is acting weird.. can anyone else find it?

Have you ever noticed a blip in the matrix? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/3676319-Have-you-ever-noticed-a-blip-in-the-matrix

OldQueen1969 · 05/08/2020 11:48

Love glitch stories - I'm an open minded sceptic but have had enough weirdness in my life to be sure there are more things in heaven and earth and all that.....

I have a good "small world" syndrome story.......

From 1998 - 2000 I lived in Lancashire in a small village called Waterfoot, and close to a town called Rawtenstall. Every year it became to focus of the Rossendale Valley Bike Show. Ex DP was a biker and we ended up on the committee. Great fun to do.

Fast forward to around 2013 / 2014. I'm living back in my hometown down South, have a new DP and completely new lifestyle and through him have become involved in live performance and creative stuff with new friends and contacts in London.

One weekend we were going to someone's birthday at the Purple Turtle, and went with our London friends to a small pub in Hackney for pre-drinks. Being flamboyant and creative we were dressed in a sort of post-Apocalyptic Steampunk costume mash up and obviously drew some attention, all good fun.

A quiet looking middle aged couple approached and asked if they could take pictures which was fine, and we started chatting. Hearing their Northern accents I asked where they were from....... Rawtenstall..... we went on to discover that the Head honcho of the Bike Show - a hairdresser - was the wife's hairdresser too and a good friend and we had a long and interesting chat about the area (which I loved) ....... but it felt so odd - what are the odds eh?

Woke up in the night to rustling in the bedroom. It was the hamster! He had never escaped before and lived in one of those roatastack cages. I was the only one in the household to ever take him out and what I did to get him out was take the wheel off and put the bolt bit inside the wheel on the floor ready for putting back on.
I knew I hadn't let the hamster out but that night the wheel was on the floor with the bolt in it. If the wheel had just come lose and fallen then the bolt would've scattered. No idea how my wee hammy got out that night!
