Building work

We have building work booked in for a much needed new roof and bathroom. We moved into this house 2 years ago. It's obviously costing a lot of money to do, but we really need to do it. No shower, rough has holes in it so when it rains the water comes in.

Work due to start in a few weeks, but with all the chat of a second wave etc I'm terrified about spending any money at all. Are we mad?

Aibu to go ahead with the work?

You are bound to be anxious its a very uneasy time at the moment.

You say about spending money in these times, however if you leave the works it could cost you more in the long run with damage that is caused from leaving water coming into your property.

If you have picked a good builder they will have their own protocol for dealing with Covid and have safety measures for both yourself and their team when it comes to the safety side of the virus too.

Hope you manage to look forward to the dry roof and new bathroom!

You'd be crazy not to if you have holes in your roof. Try see it as maintenance- it's not like you are doing frivolous building work. Its essential!

at the very least you need to go ahead with the roof. If any damage occurs due to inclement weather ie a ceiling comes down you could find that your insurance won't cover you as you have failed to maintain the property.

I would maybe leave the bathroom if you are concerned about your financial situation.
